What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains a single active ingredient: organic Centella asiatica leaf powder, commonly called gotu kola. It's a traditional herb used in Asian medicine that some people take for circulation problems and skin healing.
The powder form means you're getting the whole leaf material with no added fillers or binders.
Does it work?
Leans against
The evidence for gotu kola is mixed. It's possibly effective for venous insufficiency (sluggish circulation in the legs) and may help with minor burns.
For radiation dermatitis (skin damage from cancer treatment), the evidence suggests it probably doesn't work. For brain and cognitive health — including Alzheimer's disease and generalized anxiety — there simply isn't enough reliable evidence to know whether it helps.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Gotu kola is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth or applied to skin in the short term, but the quality of safety data is limited. The most common side effects are mild: stomach irritation and nausea by mouth, and a rash-like reaction called eczema when applied topically.
Liver toxicity is rare but has been reported — there's concern it may affect liver function in some people, though we can't be certain from the cases on record. Because of those liver concerns, safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding hasn't been well studied — the facts show it's possibly safe in pregnancy but safety during breastfeeding is unknown, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before use if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this if you take any CNS depressants — sleep aids, anti-anxiety drugs, opioids, or anything else that makes you drowsy — because gotu kola may increase sedation. Also double-check if you're on any medication known to stress the liver (your pharmacist can tell you which ones apply to you).
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with graded evidence leaning against its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Gotu kola may help with circulation issues and wound healing, but the science is modest. If you take sedating medications or drugs that stress your liver, you'll need to clear it with your doctor or pharmacist first — the interactions are real and worth checking.
Otherwise, if you're generally healthy and not on interacting medications, short-term use is typically tolerated well. Talk it over with your own healthcare provider before starting.

Organic Centella asiatica leaf powder monograph & interactionsOrganic Centella/Gotu Kola by Herbadiet Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Herbadiet's Organic Centella/Gotu Kola is a single-ingredient powder that does interact with medications.
The main concern is with CNS depressants (sedating drugs like sleep aids, anti-anxiety medications, and opioids) — gotu kola may add to their sedative effects. Research suggests it may bind to GABA receptors, which play a role in calming the nervous system, so combining it with drugs that work the same way could make you drowsier than expected.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The second moderate-severity concern involves hepatotoxic drugs (medications that can stress the liver). Taking gotu kola alongside these might compound liver strain.
While there are four case reports of liver problems tied to gotu kola use, we don't have definitive proof it caused them — contaminants and exact doses weren't documented. In one clinical trial where liver function was monitored closely, 120 mg daily for six months did not trigger liver changes, so the risk may be dose- and product-dependent.
Altogether, these interactions span 580 individual medications. Before you start gotu kola, check your exact prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs — especially any that make you drowsy or affect liver function — with your doctor or pharmacist.
