Organic Lavender Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Organic Lavender against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: lavender. Lavender flower and lavender oil are used here for their traditional and studied effects on anxiety, sleep, pain, and related conditions.
The product also contains lavender oil as an inactive ingredient.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for lavender is mixed depending on what you're using it for. It's possibly effective for period pain (dysmenorrhea).
For other uses—including pre-procedural anxiety, cancer-related fatigue, and hair loss—we don't have enough reliable data to say whether it works or doesn't. It appears possibly ineffective for cancer-related pain.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lavender is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth in food amounts and in larger medicinal doses studied in trials. When applied to skin, lavender oil is usually well tolerated, though allergic contact dermatitis can occur.
The most common side effects from oral use are breath odor, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, belching, headache, and nausea. Rare serious effects include cases of breast tissue growth in young boys using lavender oil topically.
Essential oil is toxic if swallowed, and skin contact can irritate some people. The safety data for medicinal amounts isn't robust, so use this product only with your doctor's approval.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take CNS depressants (sedatives, sleep aids, anxiety medications), double-check with your pharmacist before using this product—lavender may potentiate their effects. Check your exact medications on this page before you start.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Lavender may help with period pain, though evidence for other common uses is still being studied. If you take sedating medications—sleep aids, anxiety drugs, or similar CNS depressants—check with your pharmacist before adding this.
It's generally well tolerated, but the safety data is limited for larger medicinal doses.

Organic Lavender by Zongle Therapeutics Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Zongle Therapeutics Organic Lavender has documented interactions with one category of medications: central nervous system (CNS) depressants—drugs that slow brain activity, like sedatives, sleep aids, and some anxiety medications.
Laboratory research suggests lavender has sedative effects, so it may theoretically boost both the intended calming effect and any side effects of these drugs. However, clinical studies of oral lavender haven't reported this problem in practice.

Lavender
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, lavender might potentiate the therapeutic effects and adverse effects of CNS depressants.
Laboratory research suggests that lavender has sedative effects. However, clinical studies in patients taking oral lavender oil (Silexan) 160 mg for 10 weeks or taking lavender flower powder 1 gram daily for 2 months have not reported side effects of drowsiness, sedation, or sleepiness. There is still some concern that higher doses or different preparations of lavender might have additive effects with CNS depressant medications.
