Organic Spearmint Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Organic Spearmint against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Organic Spearmint by Zongle Therapeutics
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: spearmint. The liquid also includes spearmint oil that's been steam-distilled.
Spearmint is the herb itself — the plant used in teas and culinary applications — and here it's delivered as a concentrated liquid form rather than a dried leaf or whole plant.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence on spearmint for cognitive decline, memory, flatulence, irritable bowel syndrome, nausea after surgery, and osteoarthritis hasn't been established well enough in the data we hold to rate it one way or the other. That doesn't mean it doesn't work for any of these — it means the research so far is too thin or inconsistent to draw a solid conclusion.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Orally, spearmint is generally well tolerated. Because this is a concentrated supplement liquid rather than food or tea amounts, the safety data is thinner.
Some people have had allergic reactions — contact dermatitis, cheilitis (lip irritation), and in rare cases, swelling of the soft palate from oral use. One person in a trial reported anxiety after taking spearmint extract, though it's unclear whether spearmint caused it.
For pregnancy: the data suggests it's likely safe, though one rating notes possibly unsafe — there isn't enough solid information to know for certain. For breastfeeding: likely safe based on available data.
Because this is a concentrated supplement rather than food amounts, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you during pregnancy or while nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on any drugs that damage the liver (hepatotoxic medications) or CNS depressants — sedatives, sleep aids, anti-anxiety drugs, opioids, and similar medications that slow your nervous system. Both are Moderate severity interactions with spearmint.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This Zongle spearmint liquid is a single-ingredient product that's generally well tolerated by mouth, though concentrated supplements carry more uncertainty than food or tea. It interacts with liver-damaging drugs and CNS depressants — two serious medication categories — so check your exact prescriptions before starting.
If you're pregnant, nursing, or taking any regular medications, run this by your doctor or pharmacist first.

Organic Spearmint by Zongle Therapeutics Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Zongle Therapeutics Organic Spearmint may interact with medications through its spearmint content.
The most serious concern is with drugs that damage the liver (hepatotoxic drugs) — a Moderate severity interaction. Animal studies show that high doses of spearmint can raise liver enzyme markers and cause liver damage; taking this product alongside hepatotoxic medications could theoretically increase that risk.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Spearmint also has a Moderate interaction with CNS depressants (sedatives, sleep aids, anxiety medications, opioids, and similar drugs). Animal research suggests spearmint contains compounds with sedative properties, though human studies on spearmint gum actually showed arousal instead — the effect in people remains unclear, but it could theoretically change how your depressant medications work.
Altogether, these interactions span 580 individual medications. Because this is a concentrated liquid supplement — not just spearmint tea or food — and because the interaction data comes partly from animal studies, checking your exact medications with the tool below before you start is important.

Spearmint
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, spearmint might alter the sedative effects of CNS depressants.
Animal research suggests that (-)-carvone, a major constituent of spearmint, has sedative effects. However, in humans, chewing spearmint-flavored gum induced arousal effects.
Hepatotoxic Drugs
Theoretically, high doses of spearmint might increase the risk of liver damage when taken with hepatotoxic drugs.
Animal research suggests that drinking spearmint tea for 30 days can increase markers of liver damage, including aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and cause liver degeneration and necrosis, in a dose-dependent manner. This effect has not been reported in humans.
