This product contains one active ingredient: pantethine (also called pantesin), a form of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5). Pantethine is involved in energy production and fat metabolism in your body.
The capsule also contains two inactive ingredients — hydroxypropyl methylcellulose and L-leucine — which are used as binders and fillers.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Pantethine is possibly effective for hyperlipoproteinemia (an inherited condition affecting blood fats). For athletic performance, hyperlipidemia (high blood fat levels), and pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration (PKAN), the evidence we hold isn't strong enough to rate whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Pantethine is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety data are limited. The most common side effects are mild gastrointestinal complaints — nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloating, flatulence, and epigastric discomfort (upper stomach discomfort).
Rarely, mild skin itching has been reported. There isn't enough reliable safety data to recommend it during pregnancy, and safety during breastfeeding hasn't been well studied — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
