Pau D'Arco Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Pau D'Arco against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Pau D'Arco by Amazon Therapeutics
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This liquid formula contains 3 ingredients: distilled water, 35–40% organic alcohol (the solvent that extracts and preserves the herb), and 100% pau d'arco, a tree bark used in traditional medicine. The alcohol content acts as a preservative and helps your body absorb the pau d'arco.
There are no inactive fillers or binders in this product.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for pau d'arco isn't established in the data we hold. Studies have looked at it for cancer, peptic ulcers, wound healing, and menstrual cramps, but the research so far is insufficient to say whether it works for any of these uses.
If you're considering it for a specific health concern, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about what the current science actually supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Pau d'arco is generally well tolerated at typical doses, but the safety data is limited. At higher doses — specifically, lapachol (one of its active compounds) above 1.5 grams daily — it may cause anemia, increased bleeding risk, severe nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Occupational exposure to pau d'arco sawdust can trigger asthma and skin reactions, though this is less likely from oral use. The product should be avoided during pregnancy due to possible harm to the developing baby, and there isn't enough safety information to recommend it while breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners (anticoagulants) or antiplatelet drugs such as warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel, or others. Pau d'arco may increase your bleeding risk when combined with these medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Pau D'Arco may appeal to you if you're drawn to traditional herbal remedies, but the evidence for its effectiveness isn't solid, and it carries a moderate bleeding risk with blood thinners. If you take any anticoagulant or antiplatelet medication, don't start this product without checking with your doctor or pharmacist first.
Pregnant and breastfeeding people should avoid it.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Pau D'Arco by Amazon Therapeutics may interact with blood thinners (anticoagulants) and antiplatelet drugs through its pau d'arco content.
The most serious concern is a moderate risk of increased bleeding. In vitro research shows that pau d'arco reduces how well platelets clump together and may interfere with vitamin K, which your body needs to clot blood.
One study found that doses of lapachol (a component of pau d'arco) above 1.5 grams daily raised bleeding risk further.

Altogether, these interactions span 122 individual medications. We could not check distilled water or the organic alcohol in this formula, so we can't rule out interactions from those ingredients either.
If you take any blood thinner — whether it's a prescription like warfarin, a daily aspirin, or something else — run it through the checker below and talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product.
