What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Phosphatidylserine against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Thorne's Phosphatidylserine contains one active ingredient: phosphatidylserine isolate. Phosphatidylserine is a naturally occurring fat-like compound found in cell membranes that's thought to support brain function and cell communication.
The capsule itself is made up of inactive ingredients — cellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose, and silicon dioxide — which are common fillers and binders.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for phosphatidylserine is mixed. It's rated possibly effective for age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer disease, meaning there's some research behind it but the proof isn't rock solid.
For athletic performance, ADHD, general cognitive function, and dementia, the evidence we hold isn't strong enough to say whether it works or doesn't. If you're considering this for brain health or memory, talk it through with your pharmacist — the data supports a trial for cognitive decline, but results vary from person to person.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Phosphatidylserine is generally well tolerated, though long-term safety hasn't been fully studied. The most common side effects are flatulence, stomach upset, headache, insomnia, and nausea — and insomnia is more likely at higher doses, especially around 600 mg.
Stomach upset can occur at doses of 200–300 mg daily. Pregnancy and breastfeeding: there isn't enough safety data, so the recommendation is to avoid use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this supplement, double-check if you're on anticholinergic drugs (used for overactive bladder, Parkinson's, or muscle spasms) or cholinergic drugs (used for myasthenia gravis or certain memory disorders). Both carry Moderate-severity interaction risks with phosphatidylserine.
Run your exact medications through the tool on this page.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Phosphatidylserine may be worth considering if you're dealing with age-related memory loss or early cognitive decline and want a supplement with some research backing. If you take anticholinergic or cholinergic drugs, check your medications first — the interactions are theoretical but documented.
Stick with your pharmacist if you have questions about whether it fits your personal health picture.

Phosphatidylserine by Thorne Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Thorne's Phosphatidylserine is a single-ingredient supplement that does interact with certain medications.
The main concern is with anticholinergic drugs — medications that block a nervous-system chemical called acetylcholine. Phosphatidylserine is thought to increase acetylcholine levels, which could theoretically decrease how well anticholinergic drugs work.
This is a Moderate-severity interaction.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The other key group to watch is cholinergic drugs — those that mimic or boost acetylcholine. Phosphatidylserine might add to their effects, potentially leading to too much cholinergic activity.
This is also Moderate severity.
Altogether, these interactions span 218 individual medications. Before you start this supplement, run your exact medications through the checker on this page — especially if you take anything for an overactive bladder, Parkinson's disease, or myasthenia gravis.
