HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Phosphatidylserine Plus Phosphatidic Acid by Lipogen PS Plus
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Lipogen PS Plus contains 6 active ingredients in a proprietary phospholipid blend: phosphatidylserine, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidic acid, and other soy phospholipids. These are all naturally occurring fats found in cell membranes that support brain and nerve function.
The softgel also contains gelatin, glycerol, and iron oxide as inactive ingredients (the capsule shell and colorant).
Does it work?
Not established
Evidence for this product's effectiveness is limited. Phosphatidylcholine, one of the active ingredients, is possibly effective for ulcerative colitis (inflammation of the colon and rectum).
For Alzheimer disease, anxiety, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and alcohol-related liver disease, the evidence we hold is insufficient to say whether it works. The other ingredients in the blend don't have effectiveness ratings in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Phosphatidylcholine is generally well tolerated when taken orally. Common side effects from oral use include altered taste, bloating, diarrhea, nausea, sweating, itching, and vomiting—most often at high doses (30 grams per day or more).
A small number of people have reported these effects at smaller doses. During pregnancy, choline (which phosphatidylcholine provides) is needed, but supplement safety beyond food sources hasn't been well studied; talk with your doctor about whether this product is right for you.
There isn't enough data on use while breastfeeding; check with your healthcare provider first.
Meds to double-check
No known interactions
No interactions are documented in our data for the ingredients we could check. Still, ask your pharmacist to run your exact medications through our interaction checker on this page before you start—it's your best tool for confirming this product is safe with your drugs.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.
Lipogen PS Plus is a phospholipid blend aimed at brain and nerve support, with the most evidence behind phosphatidylcholine for ulcerative colitis. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any digestive conditions, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist first.
Most people tolerate it well, but watch for digestive upset, especially at higher doses.
