Fig fruit as a food is well tolerated for most people, but concentrated leaf extracts like those in this product have limited safety data. A key concern with fig leaf is photodermatitis—a severe sun-sensitivity reaction.

Cases have been reported ranging from mild burns to hospitalization, and in rare instances serious complications like anemia and sepsis. Avoid excessive sun or ultraviolet exposure while using this product.

English Walnut can trigger serious allergic reactions in people with tree nut allergies, including oral allergy syndrome (itching in the mouth) and rarely swelling of lips and tongue. Both walnut and fig leaf extracts may cause mild diarrhea or gastrointestinal upset.

Photosensitizing Drugs

Many cases of photodermatitis from fig leaf have been reported. Some drugs that also cause photosensitivity include amitriptyline (Elavil), quinolones (Ciprofloxacin, others), sulfa drugs (Septra, Bactrim, others), and tetracycline.
