Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: potassium, supplied as a chelated form (bound to another compound for absorption) at 99 mg per capsule. The capsule itself is made from gelatin, cellulose, and vegetable stearate—standard inactive ingredients that help deliver the potassium.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
No effectiveness data is on file for this product in our records. That doesn't mean it doesn't work; it means we don't hold clinical evidence about whether this dose of potassium improves any specific condition.
Potassium is an essential mineral your body needs, but whether a supplement fills a gap or improves your health depends on your individual diet and blood levels—something your doctor can assess.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Potassium taken by mouth is generally well tolerated. The most common side effects are mild: abdominal pain, belching, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, and vomiting.
Serious adverse effects are rare but important—very high blood potassium levels can cause irregular heartbeat, heart block, low blood pressure, and confusion, especially in people with kidney disease. During pregnancy, dietary potassium from food is fine, but use supplements only under medical guidance.
The same applies to breastfeeding—check with your doctor before taking potassium supplements. The safety data shows pregnancy and lactation is rated as likely safe, but that guidance is tied to medical oversight.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you take potassium-sparing diuretics, ACE inhibitors (such as lisinopril or enalapril), or angiotensin receptor blockers (such as losartan or valsartan). All three drug types raise your risk of dangerously high blood potassium when combined with potassium supplements.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Potassium supplements make sense only if your doctor or dietitian has identified a genuine shortfall—usually caught by a blood test. If you take a blood pressure medication, diuretic, or have kidney disease, you need medical clearance before starting this product.
Talk with your own doctor or pharmacist about whether you actually need supplemental potassium and whether it's safe with your medications.

Potassium 99 mg Chelated by Douglas Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Potassium 99 mg Chelated by Douglas Laboratories interacts with three major medication types, all carrying a Moderate severity risk of high blood potassium (hyperkalemia).
The main concern is potassium-sparing diuretics, ACE inhibitors (blood pressure drugs), and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs)—all of which reduce how much potassium your body excretes. Adding a potassium supplement on top of these medications can push your potassium to dangerously high levels.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
High blood potassium is serious. It can cause an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia), heart block, low blood pressure, and even confusion.
The risk is especially high if you have kidney disease, since your kidneys regulate potassium balance. If you take any blood pressure medication or a diuretic (water pill), you need to check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting potassium supplements—they may need to monitor your blood levels.
Additionally, a normal diet contains plenty of potassium, and most people don't need supplements. Altogether, these interactions span 62 individual medications.

Potassium
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)
Using ACEIs with high doses of potassium increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
ACEIs block the actions of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and reduce potassium excretion. Concomitant use of these drugs with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia. However, concomitant use of these drugs with moderate dietary potassium intake (about 3775-5200 mg daily) does not increase serum potassium levels.
Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (Arbs)
Using ARBs with high doses of potassium increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
ARBs block the actions of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and reduce potassium excretion. Concomitant use of these drugs with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia. However, concomitant use of these drugs with moderate dietary potassium intake (about 3775-5200 mg daily) does not increase serum potassium levels.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
Concomitant use increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
Using potassium-sparing diuretics with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
