Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: potassium, a mineral your body needs for heart rhythm, nerve function, and muscle contraction. The 99 mg dose here is a modest amount — much less than what you'd get from a banana or a sweet potato.
The supplement also contains three inactive ingredients (gelatin, cellulose, and vegetable stearate) that make up the capsule and help it hold together.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The product facts we hold don't include effectiveness ratings for potassium supplementation, so we can't tell you from our data whether this dose is proven to work for any particular purpose. If you're considering it to address a specific health concern — low potassium levels, muscle cramps, or blood pressure support — talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether supplementation makes sense for you and in what dose.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Potassium from food is safe for everyone, but supplements are a different story. They're generally well tolerated by mouth, though some people get stomach upset — abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, belching, flatulence, or vomiting are the most common complaints.
Rare but serious effects happen when potassium builds up to dangerous levels: irregular heartbeat, heart block, low blood pressure, and mental confusion. The safety data advises against using potassium supplements during pregnancy and breastfeeding without medical guidance — dietary potassium is fine, but supplements need a doctor's okay.
People with kidney disease are especially vulnerable to high potassium levels and should never take a supplement without their doctor's involvement.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on a potassium-sparing diuretic, ACE inhibitor, or ARB — all three carry a Moderate risk of raising your blood potassium to unsafe levels. Anyone with kidney problems should especially confirm this is safe for them.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This low-dose potassium supplement might make sense for someone whose doctor has confirmed a deficiency and determined supplementation is safe — but only under medical supervision. If you take a blood pressure medication (ACE inhibitor, ARB) or a water pill that spares potassium, you'll want to clear this with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Kidney disease is a red flag; talk it over with your healthcare provider before taking any potassium supplement.

Potassium 99 mg Chelated by PureFormulas Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Potassium 99 mg Chelated by PureFormulas interacts with three major drug types through its potassium content, and all carry Moderate severity.
The most serious risk is high blood potassium (hyperkalemia), which can cause irregular heartbeat, low blood pressure, and confusion — especially if you combine this supplement with potassium-sparing diuretics (water pills that preserve potassium), ACE inhibitors (blood pressure drugs), or angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs, another class of blood pressure medication).
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Potassium-sparing diuretics work by keeping potassium in your body instead of flushing it out, so adding a potassium supplement on top raises your level further. ACE inhibitors and ARBs also reduce how much potassium your kidneys excrete, creating the same risk.
All three drug types can trigger a dangerous buildup if you're taking high-dose potassium supplementation.
Alternatively potassium from your regular diet is fine — it's the supplement doses that pose the concern, especially in people with kidney disease or anyone already on these medications. Altogether, these interactions span 62 individual medications.
Before you start this supplement, check your exact prescriptions with the tool on this page.

Potassium
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)
Using ACEIs with high doses of potassium increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
ACEIs block the actions of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and reduce potassium excretion. Concomitant use of these drugs with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia. However, concomitant use of these drugs with moderate dietary potassium intake (about 3775-5200 mg daily) does not increase serum potassium levels.
Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (Arbs)
Using ARBs with high doses of potassium increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
ARBs block the actions of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and reduce potassium excretion. Concomitant use of these drugs with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia. However, concomitant use of these drugs with moderate dietary potassium intake (about 3775-5200 mg daily) does not increase serum potassium levels.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
Concomitant use increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
Using potassium-sparing diuretics with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
