HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Probiotic 60 Billion by New Age
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Probiotic 60 Billion contains 8 active ingredients: five live Lactobacillus strains (paracasei, acidophilus, casei, salivarius, and plantarum), plus prebiotic fibers from jerusalem artichoke, chicory, and blue agave inulin. The probiotics are beneficial bacteria meant to support gut health; the prebiotics are fermentable fibers that feed those bacteria.
The product also contains inactive ingredients — magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, and microcrystalline cellulose — which are common capsule fillers and binders.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Evidence is mixed and often limited. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-related diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
Inulin is possibly effective for obesity, constipation, and diabetes. Chicory has insufficient evidence to rate for osteoarthritis, indigestion, fatty liver disease, or high cholesterol.
No effectiveness data is on file for the other Lactobacillus strains or jerusalem artichoke in this product.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, though live probiotic organisms theoretically carry a small risk of infection in certain patients — your doctor should weigh that before you start. Inulin commonly causes bloating, gas, diarrhea, and cramping, especially at higher doses.
Chicory may cause abdominal pain, bloating, gas, and belching; it can also trigger allergies in people sensitive to ragweed, daisies, or related plants. Chicory in medicinal amounts is possibly unsafe in pregnancy and should not be used without medical guidance; breastfeeding safety is unclear.
Inulin is likely safe in pregnancy and lactation. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly safe in pregnancy but has no lactation data on file.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your medications before starting, especially if you take diabetes drugs (antidiabetes medications) — two ingredients here may increase the risk of low blood sugar. If you're on antibiotics, separate your doses by several hours or ask your pharmacist for timing advice, since the live bacteria in this product might be killed by the antibiotic.
No interactions are documented for the other Lactobacillus strains or jerusalem artichoke in the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may help with certain digestive issues if you're not on antibiotics or diabetes medications, but the evidence varies by ingredient. If you take diabetes drugs or antibiotics, or if you have a compromised immune system, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting it — they can weigh the potential benefits against your individual health and medication picture.
Bloating and gas are common side effects, and some people may react to the chicory content.

Probiotic 60 Billion by New Age Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Probiotic 60 Billion by New Age has documented interactions with two medication types, through its chicory, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and inulin content.
The most serious is a Moderate-severity risk: chicory may increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when combined with diabetes medications, based on animal and lab research suggesting chicory has blood-sugar-lowering effects. Lactobacillus acidophilus carries a separate Moderate-severity concern with antibiotics — the live organisms in this probiotic may be killed by antibiotic drugs, potentially reducing the probiotic's effectiveness.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Inulin also interacts with diabetes medications, but at Minor severity, theoretically increasing hypoglycemia risk; the evidence on inulin's actual blood-sugar effects in people is mixed.
We could not check several other ingredients in this product: Lactobacillus paracasei, Jerusalem artichoke, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus salivarius, and Lactobacillus plantarum — we hold no interaction data for them. Altogether, these interactions span 268 individual medications.

For each ingredient in Probiotic 60 Billion with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Probiotic Proprietary Blend
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Chicory
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chicory might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal and in vitro research shows that chicory extracts have antidiabetic effects.
Blue agave Inulin
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, inulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia with antidiabetes drugs.
Some clinical research shows that inulin improves glycemic control in patients with diabetes; however, it is unclear if it has hypoglycemic effects.
