Cefiderocol Sulfate Tosylate falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Lactobacillus Acidophilus interacts with.

Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.

Here's the simple version: cefiderocol (Fetroja) is an antibiotic, and its whole job is to kill bacteria. The catch is that your Lactobacillus acidophilus probiotic is made of live, friendly bacteria. The antibiotic can't tell the difference between harmful germs and your probiotic, so taking them close together may wipe out a good chunk of those probiotic organisms before they get a chance to help. This doesn't make cefiderocol weaker or more dangerous, it just makes the probiotic less useful.

One thing worth knowing: cefiderocol is given as an IV infusion in the hospital, so a probiotic you swallow won't run into it in the gut the same way an oral antibiotic would. Still, this is a theoretical concern based on how the two work, not strong proof. If you're using both, ask your pharmacist or doctor about timing them apart.

What Is Cefiderocol Injection Used For?

Brand name: Fetroja

Fetroja (cefiderocol) is approved for adults 18 and older to treat two types of serious infections caused by susceptible gram-negative bacteria. The first is complicated urinary tract infections (cUTIs), including kidney infections (pyelonephritis), caused by organisms such as E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus mirabilis, and Enterobacter cloacae complex.

The second is hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia (HABP) and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia (VABP), caused by gram-negative bacteria including Acinetobacter baumannii complex, E. coli, Enterobacter cloacae complex, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Serratia marcescens. Fetroja should only be used when a bacterial infection is confirmed or strongly suspected, to help prevent antibiotic resistance.
