Neomycin falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Lactobacillus Acidophilus interacts with.

Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.

Here's a simple way to think about this one. Neomycin is an antibiotic, and your probiotic is a live, friendly bacterium. If the two are in your gut at the same time, the antibiotic can kill off a good chunk of those probiotic organisms before they get a chance to help you. So the concern here isn't that Neomycin becomes dangerous, it's that your Lactobacillus acidophilus may simply not work as well.

This is a theoretical interaction based on how each one works, not a serious safety risk. An easy fix is to space them out. Taking your probiotic at least two hours apart from your Neomycin dose helps the friendly bacteria survive. If you're using neomycin for gut prep or diarrhea, check with your pharmacist about the best timing.
