Probiotic Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by OptiYouRX
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Probiotic against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Probiotic by OptiYouRX
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
OptiYouRX contains 10 active probiotic and prebiotic ingredients. The live bacterial strains are Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus salivarius, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Bifidobacterium infantis — these are beneficial microorganisms meant to support your gut flora.
The prebiotics — FOS (fructooligosaccharides), Chicory root Fiber, and Arabinogalactan — are fibers that feed those good bacteria and help them thrive. The capsule also contains two inactive ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose and hypromellose, which are standard binders and capsule materials.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for this product's ingredients is mixed. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis, though the data aren't conclusive.
Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections. For the other conditions listed in our data — including common cold, high cholesterol, hay fever, Alzheimer disease, and anxiety — the evidence for these ingredients is insufficient to rate their effectiveness, or they appear possibly ineffective.
The data we hold do not establish effectiveness for the other ingredients in this formula.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. Live probiotic organisms carry a small theoretical risk of infection in people with weakened immune systems or in very rare cases of translocation from the gut, though documented cases are uncommon.
Chicory root Fiber is well tolerated in food amounts but commonly causes gas, bloating, and abdominal discomfort; it may also trigger allergies in people sensitive to ragweed and related plants. Arabinogalactan may cause bloating and flatulence but is generally well tolerated as a fiber.
The safety data for most ingredients are limited, so check with your doctor or pharmacist before use, especially if you have a weakened immune system.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start OptiYouRX, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take antibiotic drugs — you'll need to time the probiotic several hours apart to avoid reducing its effectiveness. If you take antidiabetes medications or drugs that suppress your immune system (like those after a transplant), those also need review first.
These are Moderate-level interactions that warrant a quick conversation with your healthcare provider.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
OptiYouRX may be worth considering if you're looking to support your gut health for IBS or antibiotic-associated diarrhea, since some of its bacterial strains have modest evidence. If you take antibiotics, blood sugar medications, or immune-suppressing drugs, or if you have a weakened immune system, you'll want to check with your doctor or pharmacist first — the interactions and safety picture matter for those situations.
Expect possible gas and bloating at the start. Talk it over with your own doctor or pharmacist before you begin, especially if you take any regular medications.

Probiotic by OptiYouRX Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
OptiYouRX Probiotic interacts with medications through its Lactobacillus acidophilus, Chicory root Fiber, Arabinogalactan, and Bifidobacterium bifidum content.
The most serious interaction is Moderate: Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum may both decrease their own effectiveness when taken with antibiotic drugs, since antibiotics can kill the live organisms in the probiotic preparation. To avoid this, separate administration of antibiotics and this product by a few hours.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Chicory root Fiber presents a Moderate interaction with antidiabetes drugs — theoretically it may increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Arabinogalactan may also interfere Moderately with immunosuppressants (medications that weaken your immune system on purpose, like those taken after organ transplant), since it has immune-stimulating effects.
We could not check several ingredients — FOS, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus salivarius, and Bifidobacterium infantis — because we hold no interaction data for them. Altogether, these interactions span 388 individual medications.
Use the search tool on this page to check your exact prescriptions before you start.

For each ingredient in Probiotic with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Lactobacillus acidophilus
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Bifidobacterium bifidum
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium. bifidum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. bifidum.
Since B. bifidum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. bifidum preparations by at least 2 hours.
Arabinogalactan
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, larch arabinogalactan might interfere with immunosuppression therapy due to immunostimulant effects. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), corticosteroids (glucocorticoids), and other drugs.
Chicory root Fiber
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chicory might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal and in vitro research shows that chicory extracts have antidiabetic effects.
