Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
General wellness

This Red Raspberry product is marketed for general wellness, not a specific health condition, so there's no single claim to grade — see Red Raspberry's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets general wellness (“digestive health support”), not a specific health condition, so there is no single claim to grade against clinical-evidence data.

The evidence for red raspberry leaf isn't established in our data. Effectiveness ratings are insufficient for aging skin, cardiovascular disease, respiratory tract infections, congestive heart failure, and diabetes.

That doesn't mean the supplement doesn't work—it means we don't have reliable research showing it does for these uses.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Red raspberry leaf is generally well tolerated by most adults, though safety evidence is limited overall. The most common side effects reported are diarrhea, gastrointestinal upset, and epigastric pain (pain in the upper abdomen), though these don't happen often at typical doses.

A rare case of occupational asthma from inhaling red raspberry powder has been reported. Regarding pregnancy, the data shows mixed ratings—some evidence suggests it's likely safe, while other evidence rates it possibly safe.

Since safety isn't well established in pregnancy, use only with your doctor's guidance. For breastfeeding, there isn't enough reliable information to confirm safety either way; talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Red Raspberry.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs; diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 135 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like aspirin, clopidogrel, or warfarin)—red raspberry leaf may increase bleeding risk. Also check if you take insulin or other diabetes medications, since red raspberry leaf might lower your blood sugar.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Insulin

Red raspberry leaf might reduce glucose levels in patients being treated with insulin.
In one case report, a 38-year-old patient with gestational diabetes, whose blood glucose was being controlled with medical nutrition therapy and insulin, developed hypoglycemia after consuming two servings of raspberry leaf tea daily for 3 days beginning at 32 weeks' gestation. The patient required an insulin dose reduction. The hypoglycemia was considered to be probably related to use of red raspberry leaf tea.
