Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: red raspberry fruit at 450 mg per capsule. Red raspberry has been used traditionally for various purposes, though the evidence supporting most of those uses isn't well established.

The capsule also contains gelatin and water as inactive ingredients.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Red Raspberry product and its label doesn't state a use — see Red Raspberry's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence we hold does not establish that red raspberry is effective for aging skin, cardiovascular disease, respiratory tract infections, congestive heart failure, or diabetes. For each of these uses, the data shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate it one way or the other.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Red raspberry fruit is generally well tolerated by most adults, though the overall safety evidence is limited. The most common side effects from oral use are diarrhea, gastrointestinal upset, and stomach pain — but these don't typically occur at standard doses.

One rare case of occupational asthma from inhaling red raspberry powder was reported. For pregnancy, the safety data is mixed: red raspberry is rated both possibly safe and likely unsafe depending on the stage and use, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using it if you're pregnant.

There isn't enough reliable information to know whether it's safe while breastfeeding — check with your healthcare provider for personalized guidance.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Red Raspberry.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs; diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 135 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners (anticoagulants or antiplatelets like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel) — red raspberry may increase bleeding risk. Also flag this if you're on insulin or other diabetes medications, since red raspberry may lower blood sugar.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Red raspberry fruit may appeal to you if you're interested in herbal supplements, but the evidence for what it actually does isn't established in the data we hold. If you take blood thinners or insulin, you need to check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product — the documented interactions are real concerns.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding also warrant a conversation with your provider before use.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

In vitro research suggests that red raspberry leaf extract has antiplatelet activity and enhances the in vitro effects of the antiplatelet medication cangrelor. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Insulin

Red raspberry leaf might reduce glucose levels in patients being treated with insulin.
In one case report, a 38-year-old patient with gestational diabetes, whose blood glucose was being controlled with medical nutrition therapy and insulin, developed hypoglycemia after consuming two servings of raspberry leaf tea daily for 3 days beginning at 32 weeks' gestation. The patient required an insulin dose reduction. The hypoglycemia was considered to be probably related to use of red raspberry leaf tea.

Red Raspberry Fruit 450 mg by TerraVita Premium Collection: Common Questions

Does Red Raspberry Fruit 450 mg by TerraVita Premium Collection interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Red Raspberry Fruit 450 mg has a known interaction with 135 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Red Raspberry Fruit 450 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Does red raspberry actually work for anything?
Based on the data we hold, the evidence isn't established for aging skin, heart disease, respiratory infections, heart failure, or diabetes. That doesn't mean it doesn't work — it means the research backing those uses isn't solid enough to rate yet.
What are the side effects?
Most people tolerate it well. The side effects that can happen with oral use are diarrhea, stomach upset, and stomach pain, but these don't commonly occur at typical doses. One very rare case of asthma symptoms from inhaling red raspberry powder was reported.
Is it safe to take during pregnancy?
The safety data is conflicting — red raspberry is rated both possibly safe and likely unsafe depending on context. Because it's often used late in pregnancy doesn't mean it's proven safe. Talk with your doctor or midwife before using it if you're pregnant.
Can I take it while breastfeeding?
There isn't enough reliable information to know whether it's safe while breastfeeding. Check with your doctor or pharmacist to decide whether it's right for you.
Why does this interact with so many medications?
The ingredient list shows 135 medications affected across the drug types we identified — blood thinners and insulin products. That's because those drug classes include many individual medications with the same action, and red raspberry's effects touch both of those pathways.
