Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: rooibos leaf extract in dry form. Rooibos is a caffeine-free plant used in traditional teas and herbal preparations.

The inactive ingredients are glycerin and water — standard carriers for a liquid extract.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Rooibos product and its label doesn't state a use — see Rooibos's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for rooibos isn't established in our data. We hold effectiveness ratings for age-related cognitive decline, allergic rhinitis (hay fever), anxiety, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes — all show insufficient reliable evidence to rate.

That means studies so far haven't proven whether rooibos works for these conditions, not that it doesn't.

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Rooibos tea is generally well tolerated when consumed in normal amounts. However, large and long-term doses — particularly concentrated extracts — carry caution.

One case report documented a man who drank 10 cups daily for over a year and developed liver dysfunction and low platelet counts (thrombocytopenia). Because concentrated extracts haven't been well studied, check with your provider before regular use, especially if you have liver concerns.

Before taking this product, check with your pharmacist if you're on CYP3A4 substrates (a large group including some cholesterol and blood pressure drugs), CYP2C19 substrates, CYP1A2 substrates, CYP2D6 substrates, CYP2C9 substrates, ACE inhibitors (blood pressure medications), or atorvastatin. Rooibos can slow how your liver clears all of these, potentially raising their levels and side effects.

Rooibos Alcohol Free by Herbal Terra: Common Questions

Does Rooibos Alcohol Free by Herbal Terra interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Rooibos Alcohol Free has a known interaction with 879 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Rooibos Alcohol Free contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Is rooibos safe to drink every day?
Rooibos tea in normal amounts is generally well tolerated. But we don't have good data on concentrated extracts used regularly. If you're thinking of making this a daily habit — especially a concentrated form — check with your provider first.
Can I take this if I'm on blood pressure medication?
Not without asking your pharmacist first. Rooibos may increase the effects of ACE inhibitors and could also slow how your liver clears certain other blood pressure drugs. This could make your medication stronger than intended.
What's the difference between this and regular rooibos tea?
This is a concentrated dry extract in liquid form, which delivers a much stronger dose than you'd get from a cup of tea. That's why concentrated extracts need more caution — we know less about their long-term effects.
Does rooibos actually help with anxiety or heart health?
The evidence isn't established yet. We don't have reliable studies showing rooibos works for anxiety, heart disease, diabetes, or the other conditions people take it for. It's used traditionally, but that doesn't mean it's proven to work.
Are there any side effects from drinking rooibos?
In normal amounts, side effects are rare. But large doses — like the 10 cups a day in one case report — can cause liver damage and low platelet counts in some people. Stick to normal amounts unless your provider says otherwise.
Can I take this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
We don't have safety data on file for rooibos in pregnancy or lactation. Talk with your doctor or midwife before taking it during pregnancy or while nursing.
