HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Royal Jelly Extract by Puritan's Pride
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: royal jelly extract. Royal jelly is a creamy secretion from honeybees that's sometimes used for menopausal symptoms and other purposes.
The softgel also holds soybean oil, gelatin, glycerin, yellow beeswax, and soy lecithin as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for royal jelly is mixed. It's possibly effective for menopausal symptoms.
For allergic rhinitis (hay fever), physical performance, and diabetes, the research suggests it's possibly ineffective. For hair loss (androgenic alopecia), there isn't enough reliable evidence to say whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Royal jelly is generally well tolerated by most people, but it can trigger serious allergic reactions — especially in anyone with a history of asthma or atopy (a tendency toward allergic conditions). Common allergic symptoms include itching, hives, eczema, and trouble breathing.
In rare cases, it can cause anaphylaxis or death in sensitive people. There's also one report of severe intestinal bleeding (hemorrhagic colitis) after taking royal jelly, though symptoms resolved after stopping it.
There isn't enough safety information to use this product during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you're pregnant or nursing, talk with your doctor before starting.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check your exact medications — especially if you take warfarin (Coumadin) or any blood pressure medication. Both carry a Moderate interaction risk with royal jelly.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Royal jelly extract may help with menopausal symptoms, but it's not established as effective for most other uses. If you take warfarin or blood pressure medications, check with your pharmacist first — the interactions are real.
If you have asthma or a history of allergies, be especially cautious, since serious allergic reactions are possible.

Royal Jelly Extract by Puritan's Pride Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Royal Jelly Extract by Puritan's Pride has documented interactions with blood pressure medications and warfarin (Coumadin), a blood thinner.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The most serious concern is warfarin. Royal jelly might increase your bleeding risk if you're taking it — in one case, a patient stabilized on warfarin developed severe bleeding (hematuria) and a dangerously high INR just one week after starting royal jelly.
If you take warfarin, do not start this product without checking with your doctor or pharmacist first.
Blood pressure medications (antihypertensives) are also a concern. Royal jelly may lower blood pressure on its own, so combining it with drugs that already do could push your pressure too low.
Altogether, these interactions span 172 individual medications. Use the search tool below to check your exact prescriptions before starting.
