What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Shark Cartilage against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: shark cartilage. The capsule also holds inactive ingredients including dicalcium phosphate, gelatin, silica, and vegetable magnesium stearate — these are fillers and binders that help form and stabilize the capsule.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for shark cartilage's effectiveness is sparse. It's rated likely ineffective for cancer.
For age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, Kaposi sarcoma, osteoarthritis, and psoriasis, the evidence isn't established well enough to rate — meaning we don't yet have solid data showing it works or doesn't work for these uses. If you're considering it for any of these conditions, talk with your doctor about whether there are better-studied options available.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Orally, shark cartilage is generally well tolerated, though side effects do occur. The most common ones are constipation, dizziness, upset stomach (dyspepsia), nausea, vomiting, taste disturbances, fatigue, and low blood pressure (hypotension).
Rare serious side effects include changes in consciousness, weakness, decreased feeling in your limbs, hepatitis (liver inflammation), high or low blood sugar, and swelling in your feet and legs. The product is poorly studied overall, and proven benefits are lacking.
There isn't enough safety data to use shark cartilage during pregnancy or while breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you in these situations.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take immunosuppressants (medications to suppress your immune system, often used after transplant or for severe autoimmune conditions), double-check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting shark cartilage — lab evidence suggests it might theoretically interfere with how these drugs work, though this hasn't been confirmed in actual patients.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Shark cartilage is generally well tolerated but lacks strong evidence of effectiveness for most conditions and is rated likely ineffective for cancer. The main concern is a potential moderate interaction with immunosuppressants.
If you take medications to suppress your immune system or have any chronic conditions, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product.
