Sinutol EM contains 2 active ingredients: eucalyptus leaf oil and myrtle leaf oil, both supplied as essential oils in a softgel capsule. The inactive ingredients are extra virgin olive oil, gelatin, glycerol, and water.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence we hold for eucalyptus covers acne, bronchitis, asthma, burns, and cancer — all rated as insufficient reliable evidence to rate its effectiveness for any of these. Similarly, myrtle leaf oil is rated insufficient reliable evidence to rate for acne, bacterial vaginosis, respiratory tract infections, diarrhea, reflux, and gingivitis.

How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Eucalyptus leaf oil in diluted form is generally well tolerated, but the undiluted oil can be toxic if swallowed — toxicity signs including nervous system depression, shallow breathing, and in rare cases seizures or coma have been reported. The most common side effects from oral use are diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting; topical use may cause burning, itching, or redness.
A case of worsening asthma and sinus symptoms linked to eucalyptus consumption has been reported. Myrtle leaf oil has limited safety data overall; topically it is generally well tolerated but may cause dry skin.
Orally, very large amounts of undiluted myrtle oil theoretically could cause respiratory failure. During pregnancy, eucalyptus is rated likely safe, but myrtle is rated likely unsafe — the data advises against myrtle in pregnancy.
For breastfeeding, eucalyptus safety data is not established, and myrtle safety is unknown; discuss with your doctor or pharmacist before using while nursing.

Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus radiata) leaf oil
Amphetamines
Theoretically, inhaling eucalyptol may reduce the effectiveness of amphetamines.
Animal research suggests that inhaling eucalyptol may reduce the levels of amphetamines in the blood.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, eucalyptus leaf might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Animal research suggests that eucalyptus leaf might have hypoglycemic activity, and might have additive effects when used with antidiabetes drugs.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, eucalyptus might increase the levels of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that eucalyptus oil might inhibit CYP1A2, although this has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Substrates
Theoretically, eucalyptus might increase the levels of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that eucalyptus oil might inhibit CYP2C19, although this has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Substrates
Theoretically, eucalyptus might increase the levels of CYP2C9 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that eucalyptus oil might inhibit CYP2C9, although this has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, eucalyptus might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that eucalyptus oil might inhibit CYP3A4, although this has not been reported in humans.
Pentobarbital (Nembutal)
Theoretically, inhaling eucalyptol might reduce the effectiveness of pentobarbital.
Animal research suggests that inhaling eucalyptol reduces the level of pentobarbital that reaches the brain.
