What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Spearmint Leaf Powder against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Spearmint Leaf Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Spearmint Leaf Powder contains one active ingredient: spearmint in powder form. The product has no inactive ingredients listed.
This is a straightforward single-herb powder with nothing else added.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for spearmint's effectiveness isn't established in the data we hold. It's been studied for age-related cognitive decline, memory and thinking function, bloating, irritable bowel syndrome, nausea after surgery, and joint pain — but each of those has insufficient reliable evidence to rate whether it actually works for any of them.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Spearmint as a food or tea is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth. However, this product is a concentrated supplement powder, not a diluted tea or food flavoring — the data advises caution with concentrated supplements and recommends sticking to food or tea amounts unless your doctor approves.
Allergic reactions are the main concern: spearmint can cause allergic skin rashes and lip irritation when applied to skin or inhaled, and rarely, swelling of the soft palate or oral lichen planus when eaten. One trial participant reported anxiety while taking spearmint extract, though it's unclear whether spearmint caused it.
If you have a spearmint allergy, avoid this product.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this powder, double-check with your pharmacist if you use any drugs that damage the liver (Moderate severity) or central nervous system depressants like sleep aids and anti-anxiety medications (Moderate severity). Altogether, these interactions span 563 individual medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Spearmint powder is worth considering if you're looking for a traditional herbal option and your doctor gives the okay — but because it's a concentrated supplement, not just a tea, you should talk with your pharmacist first, especially if you take medications for sleep, anxiety, or anything that affects your liver. There's no solid evidence it works for any particular condition, so be clear on why you're taking it.

Spearmint, Powder monograph & interactionsSpearmint Leaf Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Spearmint Leaf Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection has documented interactions with two categories of medications, affecting a broad range of drugs.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The most serious concern is with drugs that damage the liver (hepatotoxic drugs) — a Moderate-severity interaction. Animal research shows that spearmint tea consumed over 30 days can raise liver enzyme markers (aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase) and cause liver cell damage.
High doses of this powder might increase your risk of liver injury if you're already taking a medication known to stress the liver.
Spearmint may also interact with central nervous system (CNS) depressants — sedating medications like sleep aids, anti-anxiety drugs, and some pain relievers — at Moderate severity. Animal studies suggest spearmint's main active compound has sedative effects, but human studies of spearmint gum showed the opposite: it increased alertness.
The actual effect in you is unclear and could go either way.
You'll want to check your exact medications with the search tool on this page, especially if you take anything for sleep, anxiety, or liver function.

Spearmint, Powder
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, spearmint might alter the sedative effects of CNS depressants.
Animal research suggests that (-)-carvone, a major constituent of spearmint, has sedative effects. However, in humans, chewing spearmint-flavored gum induced arousal effects.
Hepatotoxic Drugs
Theoretically, high doses of spearmint might increase the risk of liver damage when taken with hepatotoxic drugs.
Animal research suggests that drinking spearmint tea for 30 days can increase markers of liver damage, including aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and cause liver degeneration and necrosis, in a dose-dependent manner. This effect has not been reported in humans.
