What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Stevia against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: certified organic stevia (Stevia rebaudiana) dried leaf as a liquid extract. It's a zero-calorie sweetener derived from the stevia plant.
The only other ingredient listed is menstruum, which is the liquid used to extract and concentrate the stevia.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we have on stevia for diabetes, high blood pressure, and weight loss is insufficient to make a reliable claim about how well it works. Some preliminary studies suggest stevia extract may help lower blood sugar after meals in people with type 2 diabetes, and that stevia constituents might lower blood pressure in people with hypertension — but other research doesn't back that up consistently.
We don't hold enough data to say whether it's effective for these uses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Purified stevia used in food amounts is generally recognized as safe. However, this product is a supplement-dose liquid extract, not a food additive, and high-dose supplements haven't been studied as thoroughly — so use caution.
When taken by mouth, stevia and its active compounds appear to be well tolerated overall, with most people experiencing no problems or only minor ones. The most common side effects are abdominal bloating, dizziness, headache, muscle pain, nausea, and numbness; these usually resolve after the first week.
Rare allergic reactions have been reported. We don't have safety data on file for stevia during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take lithium, do not start this product without talking to your pharmacist or doctor first — stevia may raise lithium levels. Also double-check before using it alongside blood pressure medications or diabetes drugs, where the effects are less certain but documented in the data.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Stevia is a plant-based zero-calorie sweetener generally well tolerated at food levels. If you take lithium, blood pressure medication, or diabetes medication, check this product with your pharmacist first — the interactions may matter for your specific situation.
Otherwise, it's worth a conversation if you have questions about side effects or use during pregnancy.

Stevia by Herbal Terra Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Herbal Terra Stevia is a single-ingredient liquid extract that does interact with a few medication types.
The most serious concern is lithium — stevia may reduce how your body clears it, potentially raising lithium levels to unsafe ranges. This happens because stevia may act as a mild diuretic, which can affect how lithium is filtered by your kidneys.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Stevia can also interact with blood pressure medications (antihypertensive drugs) and diabetes drugs. With blood pressure meds, there's a theoretical risk of blood pressure dropping too low; the evidence on whether stevia itself lowers blood pressure is mixed.
With diabetes medications, stevia might raise the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), though one small study suggested a dose of 1000 mg reduced blood sugar after meals.
Altogether, these interactions span 256 individual medications. If you take any of these drug types — especially lithium — use the medication checker on this page before you start, or talk to your pharmacist about whether this product is right for you.

certified organic Stevia (Stevia rebaudiana) dried leaf liquid extract
Lithium
Theoretically, stevia might decrease clearance and increase levels of lithium.
Animal research suggests that stevia extracts might have diuretic activity. Theoretically, increased reabsorption of lithium along with sodium might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, stevia might increase the risk for hypoglycemia when combined with antidiabetes drugs.
Preliminary clinical research in patients with type 2 diabetes suggests that taking a single dose of stevia extract 1000 mg reduces postprandial blood glucose levels when taken with a meal. However, other clinical research in patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes suggests that taking stevioside 250 mg three times daily does not significantly affect blood glucose levels or glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) after three months of treatment.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, combining stevia or stevia constituents with antihypertensive agents might increase the risk of hypotension.
Stevia extract and stevioside might lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension. However, other clinical research suggests that stevioside does not significantly lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
