HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Super Krill Oil Complex 500 mg by NutriSuppz
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Super Krill Oil Complex contains five active ingredients. Three are omega-3 fatty acids: eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), both from krill oil, plus krill oil itself — a marine source of these heart-healthy fats.
The product also includes astaxanthin, a carotenoid antioxidant that gives krill its reddish color, and phospholipids, which help your body absorb and use these oils. The capsules themselves are made from gelatin, glycerin, and water.
Does it work?
Insufficient evidence
The evidence for krill oil in this product is mixed. It's rated possibly effective for dry eye — that's the one condition with some research support.
For aging skin, Alzheimer disease, cancer, high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), and cognitive function, the evidence isn't established in our data. Astaxanthin shows insufficient evidence for age-related cognitive decline, age-related macular degeneration, aging skin, Alzheimer disease, athletic performance, and carpal tunnel syndrome — meaning research is too thin or mixed to rate it yet.
If you're considering this supplement for a specific health goal, ask your pharmacist whether the evidence matches what you're hoping it'll do.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Krill oil is generally well tolerated at doses up to 4 grams daily, though some people report bloating, nausea, diarrhea, fishy burps, flatulence, heartburn, decreased appetite, or stomach discomfort — side effects that tend to be milder than those from fish oil. Rarely, headache, tiredness, and dizziness have been reported.
Astaxanthin is also generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety data are limited; at typical doses it may cause abdominal pain, diarrhea, or red-colored stools, and a higher dose caused severe stomach pain in a couple of people. Avoid this product if you have a shellfish allergy, and use caution if you have a bleeding disorder.
During pregnancy, there isn't enough safety data for krill oil, so talk to your doctor first. The same goes for breastfeeding — avoid astaxanthin while nursing because safety data are lacking, and check with your doctor about krill oil.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your pharmacist if you're on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin or aspirin) — krill oil may increase bleeding risk. Also verify any diabetes medications you take, since krill oil might theoretically lower blood sugar.
If you're on medications broken down by your liver through the CYP3A4 or CYP2B6 pathways (astaxanthin may affect these), get those checked too.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with insufficient evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product is worth considering if you're specifically interested in krill oil for dry eye support and want the omega-3s from a marine source. If you take blood thinners, diabetes medications, or drugs processed through certain liver pathways (CYP3A4 or CYP2B6), check your exact medications with the tool on this page before starting.

Super Krill Oil Complex 500 mg by NutriSuppz Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Super Krill Oil Complex by NutriSuppz contains two ingredients with documented interactions: krill oil and astaxanthin.
The most serious concern is krill oil's Moderate-severity interaction with blood thinners (anticoagulants) and antiplatelet drugs — omega-3 fatty acids in krill oil may theoretically increase bleeding risk if you're already taking medications that thin your blood or reduce clotting.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Krill oil also carries a Moderate interaction with diabetes medications. Some research suggests krill oil might lower blood sugar, which could raise your risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) if combined with antidiabetes drugs — though a small study in people with type 2 diabetes didn't show this effect.
Astaxanthin, the product's antioxidant ingredient, may theoretically decrease levels of drugs your body metabolizes through two liver pathways (CYP3A4 and CYP2B6 substrates). This effect hasn't been reported in humans yet, but it's a Moderate-severity concern in lab work.
We couldn't check three other ingredients — eicosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid, and phospholipids — because we hold no interaction data for them. Altogether, these interactions span 827 individual medications.

For each ingredient in Super Krill Oil Complex 500 mg with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Astaxanthin
Cytochrome P450 2B6 (Cyp2B6) Substrates
Theoretically, astaxanthin may decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2B6.
In vitro research shows that astaxanthin induces cytochrome CYP2B6 enzyme activity in human hepatocytes. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, astaxanthin may decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that astaxanthin induces CYP3A4 enzyme activity in human hepatocytes. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Krill Oil
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, krill oil may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Taking high doses of omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil can modestly decrease platelet aggregation. Since krill oil also contains these fatty acids, taking high doses of krill oil might also inhibit platelet aggregation. Theoretically, taking high doses of krill oil with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs might increase the risk of bleeding. However, the omega-3 content of krill oil is much lower than that of fish oil.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking krill oil with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research in animals and humans shows that krill oil might lower blood glucose levels. However, a small study shows that taking krill oil does not reduce blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes, most of whom were taking antidiabetes drugs.
