HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Take It Down A Notch by Red Moon Herbs
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Take It Down A Notch contains five active ingredients: motherwort (fresh), skullcap (fresh), milky oat (fresh), holy basil (fresh), and blue vervain (fresh). They're combined in a proprietary blend, which means the exact amount of each is not disclosed on the label.
The product is a liquid form and also contains alcohol and water as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Insufficient evidence
The evidence for these herbs is mixed. Milky oat (oats) is likely effective for high cholesterol (dyslipidemia) and heart disease support.
For the other ingredients — motherwort for bleeding and alcohol use disorder, skullcap for stress and seizures, and holy basil for anxiety and diabetes — the evidence isn't established enough to rate them reliably. The data we hold shows insufficient evidence for these uses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Motherwort and skullcap are generally well tolerated short-term, though human safety data are limited for both. The most common oral side effects are mild — motherwort may cause diarrhea or stomach irritation; skullcap may cause digestive disturbances, sedation, or cognitive impairment (though a 100 mg dose appears safe).
Oats are well tolerated, with bloating and flatulence being the main complaints when you first increase fiber intake. Holy basil is generally well tolerated, with loose stools and nausea reported in a small number of trial participants.
Motherwort and skullcap should be avoided in pregnancy; oats eaten as food are likely safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding, though concentrated supplements are less studied. Holy basil is rated possibly unsafe in pregnancy and should be avoided while breastfeeding.
We hold no pregnancy or breastfeeding data for blue vervain.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check any CNS depressants (sleep aids, anxiety meds, pain relievers), diabetes medications and insulin, blood thinners (anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs), and barbiturates like pentobarbital. These are all Moderate severity interactions.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with insufficient evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product is designed for relaxation, but it's not one to start without checking your medications first — especially if you take sleep aids, blood thinners, diabetes drugs, or insulin. Talk with your pharmacist before you begin, bring a list of everything you're on, and use the interaction checker on this page.

Take It Down A Notch by Red Moon Herbs Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Take It Down A Notch by Red Moon Herbs contains several herbs that interact with medications.
The most serious concern is motherwort and skullcap, both of which can add to the sedating effects of CNS depressants (drugs that slow your brain and nervous system, like sleep aids, anxiety medications, and pain relievers). This is a Moderate severity issue — combining them could leave you drowsy or impair your thinking more than either substance alone.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Milky oat can lower your blood sugar and may interact with diabetes medications and insulin, potentially increasing the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Holy basil may thin your blood slightly (based on animal research), so it could theoretically increase bleeding risk with anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs like warfarin or aspirin.
Holy basil may also lower blood sugar with diabetes drugs and could enhance the sedative effects of the barbiturate pentobarbital — all Moderate severity interactions.
We could not check blue vervain because we hold no interaction data for it. Altogether, these interactions span 436 individual medications.
