Trans-Resveratrol Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by SuperSmart
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Trans-Resveratrol against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Trans-Resveratrol by SuperSmart
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains 1 active ingredient: Polygonum cuspidatum extract, a plant source of resveratrol — a compound studied for potential effects on inflammation and cellular health. The extract is a traditional herb also known as hu zhang.
The capsule also contains acacia gum as an inactive ingredient.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence on hu zhang and resveratrol for the uses listed — hepatitis, rheumatoid arthritis, wound healing, gout, osteoarthritis, and unstable angina — is insufficient to establish whether they work. We don't have strong human trial data supporting these claims in our monograph.
How safe is it?
Some data gaps
Hu zhang is used in traditional medicine, but human safety data for supplements are limited. The extract contains emodin, a compound that may cause digestive upset.
The safety data advises against use during pregnancy — there isn't enough information and some compounds in hu zhang may affect the uterus or bowel. Similarly, there is not enough safety information to recommend it while breastfeeding, so it's best avoided in that situation.
No adverse effects from trials are on file.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start this product, check with your pharmacist or use the tool below if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin or aspirin), medications broken down by your liver's CYP1A2, CYP2C19, CYP3A4, or CYP2E1 enzymes, estrogen replacement therapy, or carbamazepine (Tegretol). The interactions are theoretical but documented in our data.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and some safety-information gaps remain.
If you're interested in resveratrol, this product sources it from hu zhang — a traditional herb with theoretical effects on several liver enzymes and blood thinning. Anyone taking blood thinners, heart medications, psychiatric drugs, or hormone replacement therapy should check their exact medications with your pharmacist before adding this.
Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use it.

Trans-Resveratrol by SuperSmart Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Trans-Resveratrol by SuperSmart contains Polygonum cuspidatum extract (hu zhang), which has documented interactions with several medication types.
The most serious concern involves blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (Moderate severity) — resveratrol in hu zhang appears to have blood-thinning effects itself, so combining it with medications like warfarin or aspirin could raise your bleeding risk.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The extract also theoretically may increase levels of drugs broken down by your liver's cytochrome P450 enzymes — specifically CYP1A2, CYP2C19, CYP3A4, and CYP2E1 substrates, all rated Moderate. This means certain heart medications, psychiatric drugs, and other prescriptions metabolized this way could build up in your system.
Additionally, hu zhang might interfere with estrogen replacement therapy by competing with how those hormones work in your body (Moderate). One antiseizure medication, carbamazepine (Tegretol), could also have stronger effects when combined with this extract (Minor severity).
Although in-human reports of these interactions are rare or absent, the theoretical mechanisms are based on lab and animal data. Altogether, these interactions span 816 individual medications.
Use the medication checker below to look up your exact prescriptions before starting this product.

For each ingredient in Trans-Resveratrol with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Trans-Resveratrol
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Resveratrol may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Resveratrol seems to have antiplatelet effects.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, resveratrol might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
In vitro research shows that resveratrol can inhibit CYP1A2 enzymes. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Substrates
Theoretically, resveratrol might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C19.
In vitro research shows that resveratrol can inhibit CYP2C19 enzymes. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2E1 (Cyp2E1) Substrates
Resveratrol might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2E1.
In vitro research suggests that resveratrol inhibits CYP2E1 isoenzyme. Also, a pharmacokinetic study shows that taking resveratrol 500 mg daily for 10 days prior to taking a single dose of chlorzoxazone 250 mg increases the maximum concentration of chlorzoxazone by about 54%, the area under the curve of chlorzoxazone by about 72%, and the half-life of chlorzoxazone by about 35%. Chlorzoxazone is used as a probe drug for CYP2E1.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, resveratrol might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that resveratrol can inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme. However, clinical research shows that taking resveratrol 3000 mg daily for 8 weeks does not necessitate dose adjustments to medications metabolized by CYP3A4.
