How safe is it?

Beta-carotene is generally well tolerated at recommended doses, but vitamin A is fat-soluble and builds up in your body, so high doses can turn toxic. In rare cases, very high doses have caused liver damage, a serious pressure buildup in the brain (pseudotumor cerebri), and other serious effects.
Chronic overuse can cause dry skin, hair loss, and nail problems. For pregnancy and breastfeeding, the picture is mixed: the data rates it likely safe at normal and recommended amounts, but possibly unsafe at high doses—especially as retinol (the active form of vitamin A), which can cause birth defects.
High-dose supplements in pregnancy should be avoided unless a doctor directs otherwise. If you're pregnant, nursing, or planning pregnancy, talk with your pharmacist or doctor before taking this product at anything beyond normal dietary amounts.

TRUE FOOD(R) BETA CAROTENE is one of the few truley vegetarian/vegan beta carotene supplements as many are still spray dried onto animal or fish gelatines.
General Statements
Saccharomyces cerevisiae is grown in a non GM soya-based medium. The yeast cell walls are gently pre-digested and broken down with enzymes from pineapple and papaya fruit to release the nutrients within each cell.

You'll also want to flag this product if you take warfarin (a blood thinner). High doses of vitamin A can increase bleeding risk—stick to no more than 10,000 IU daily if you're on warfarin.
Tetracycline antibiotics are another consideration: combining them with high-dose vitamin A raises the risk of a serious but rare condition called pseudotumor cerebri (pressure buildup around the brain). Additionally, high-dose vitamin A paired with other drugs that stress the liver may raise the risk of liver damage.

The tolerable upper intake level (UL) is the highest level of intake that is likely to pose no risk of adverse effects. Doses of vitamin A above the UL can cause hepatotoxicity, ranging from elevated liver enzymes to liver failure.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, taking tetracycline antibiotics with high doses of vitamin A can increase the risk of pseudotumor cerebri.
Benign intracranial hypertension (pseudotumor cerebri) can occur with tetracyclines and with acute or chronic vitamin A toxicity. Case reports suggest that taking tetracyclines and vitamin A concurrently can increase the risk of this condition. Avoid high doses of vitamin A in people taking tetracyclines chronically.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, high doses of vitamin A could increase the risk of bleeding with warfarin.
Vitamin A toxicity is associated with hemorrhage and hypoprothrombinemia, possibly due to vitamin K antagonism. Advise patients taking warfarin to avoid doses of vitamin A above the tolerable upper intake level of 10,000 IU/day for adults.
