Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 5 of its 5 active ingredients.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Vagiclear contains 5 active ingredients, all probiotics — beneficial bacteria meant to support vaginal and digestive health. The main ones are Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus, along with Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus plantarum, and Lactobacillus casei.

Each capsule delivers live, active organisms. The inactive ingredients are microcrystalline cellulose (a filler) and a vegetarian capsule shell.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: hi-potency friendly bacteria for female health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Bacterial vaginosis, Vaginal candidiasis, Vulvovaginal health, Vaginal microbiome balance.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Possibly Effective" for Bacterial vaginosis (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Vaginal candidiasis.
  • Also on file: Lactobacillus Delbrueckii is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Vaginal candidiasis.

The evidence for Lactobacillus acidophilus supports it as possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis. It's rated possibly ineffective for atopic disease and there isn't enough reliable evidence to rate it for acute respiratory distress syndrome.

For Lactobacillus bulgaricus, the data we hold show insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for acne, allergic rhinitis, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, asthma, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and the common cold. We don't have established effectiveness ratings for the other three ingredients in this product.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 2 of the 2 matched ingredients.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 2 of 2.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 2 of 2.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, though gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, gas, abdominal pain, and diarrhea can occur — these are uncommon. There's a theoretical risk of infection in some patients because the live organisms could translocate (move) to other body sites and cause bacteremia, sepsis, or other serious infections, though this is rare and most often happens in people who are already very ill.

Lactobacillus bulgaricus is also generally well tolerated in healthy people but requires caution in those who are very ill or immunocompromised. We hold no pregnancy or breastfeeding data for any of these ingredients, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you're pregnant or nursing.

Vagiclear by Higher Nature: Common Questions

Does Vagiclear by Higher Nature interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Vagiclear has a known interaction with 182 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Vagiclear contains 5 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this with antibiotics?
Not at the same time. Antibiotics can kill the live beneficial bacteria in Vagiclear, making it less effective. Your pharmacist can help you space them apart — usually a few hours or more, depending on the antibiotic.
What are the side effects?
Most people tolerate it well. Uncommon side effects include bloating, gas, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and burping. In rare cases, these probiotics can cause serious infections if they move to other parts of the body, though this mainly happens in people who are already very ill.
Is it safe if I'm immunocompromised or very ill?
No. People with weakened immune systems or serious illness should be cautious and check with their doctor first, since there's a theoretical risk the live organisms could cause infection.
Does Lactobacillus acidophilus actually work for bacterial vaginosis?
The evidence says it's possibly effective, meaning there's reason to think it might help, but it's not proven. Talk with your doctor about whether it's right for your situation.
Can I take this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
We don't have safety data on file for these ingredients in pregnancy or breastfeeding. Check with your doctor or pharmacist — they can give you personalized advice based on your health.
What's in the capsule besides the probiotics?
Microcrystalline cellulose, which is a filler that helps hold the capsule together. The capsule itself is vegetarian.
