What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product has one active ingredient, holy basil leaf extract (dry), which is the source of its listed effects. The inactive ingredients listed are glycerin and water.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
Holy basil leaf extract is rated insufficient reliable evidence to rate for age-related cognitive decline, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), asthma, headache, respiratory tract infections, and dental plaque. In plain terms, the evidence for these uses isn't established in the data we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Holy basil extract is generally well tolerated short-term in adults, but high-quality long-term safety data are limited. Orally, the most common side effects are loose stools and nausea.
In one clinical study, two of 24 participants taking capsules had nausea or loose stools. Topically, holy basil mouthwash has been reported to cause a bitter taste.
Pregnancy and lactation are rated possibly unsafe, and the safety data advises against using it during pregnancy. The data also advises avoiding it while breastfeeding, because there isn't enough reliable safety information.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Double-check anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs, antidiabetes drugs, and the sedative pentobarbital before taking this product, since all three interactions are rated Moderate. Your own doctor or pharmacist can confirm whether any of these apply to you.
The bottom line

This may interest adults considering holy basil for the uses above, though the evidence for those uses isn't established. Be especially careful if you take blood thinners, diabetes medicines, or sedatives, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
