Here's the simple version: Levemir (insulin detemir) already lowers your blood sugar, and a few small studies suggest holy basil can nudge blood sugar down too. Put them together and the effects may stack up, which raises your chance of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). That can show up as shakiness, sweating, dizziness, a fast heartbeat, confusion, or feeling suddenly hungry.

The evidence here is fairly modest, so this isn't a reason to panic. Holy basil doesn't change how your body handles the insulin itself; it just adds its own glucose-lowering nudge. If you'd like to try tulsi, please loop in your pharmacist or doctor first, and check your sugars a bit more closely at the start so any dose tweaks can be handled safely. Don't change your insulin on your own.

Levemir (insulin detemir) is used to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults and children with type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes. It is a basal insulin, meaning it works around the clock to keep background blood sugar levels steady.

Levemir is not recommended for treating diabetic ketoacidosis (a dangerous buildup of acids in the blood that requires a different type of insulin).
