Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: wheat grass extract in a 4:1 concentrated powder form. That means the extract has been concentrated down, so you're getting more of wheatgrass's compounds per dose than you would from the fresh plant alone.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for wheatgrass treating specific health conditions isn't established in our data. We hold effectiveness ratings for bronchitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate), beta-thalassemia, the common cold, and cancer — and for all of them, the evidence is insufficient to make a reliable call.
If you're considering this product for a specific reason, talk with your pharmacist about what the current science actually supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Wheatgrass is generally well tolerated as a food, but the safety data comes with an important caveat: quality and contamination concerns mean caution is wise. Raw wheatgrass products in particular may carry a contamination risk.
The most common side effects people report are nausea, loss of appetite, and constipation. Because wheat is a major food allergen in the United States, anyone sensitive to wheat should know that wheatgrass can trigger allergic reactions.
Our data notes there isn't enough safety information to recommend this unless your doctor approves, so it's worth asking before you start.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antidiabetes drugs or medications broken down by the liver enzyme CYP1A2, check with your pharmacist before starting this product — both interactions are Moderate severity and could affect how well your medications work or your blood sugar control. Use the medication checker on this page with your exact drug names.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Wheatgrass extract is generally tolerated, but it's not your move to make alone if you take diabetes medications or drugs metabolized by the liver enzyme CYP1A2 — both need a conversation with your pharmacist first. If you're allergic to wheat, skip it.
The evidence for what this product actually does for specific health conditions isn't established yet.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Wheat Grass 4:1 Extract Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection does interact with certain medication types, and there are a couple of groups worth knowing about before you start.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The main concern is antidiabetes drugs — medications you take to manage blood sugar. Animal research shows wheatgrass can stimulate insulin release and lower blood glucose on its own.
Taken together with your diabetes medication, that could push your blood sugar too low (hypoglycemia), so this is a Moderate-severity interaction you'll want to discuss with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this product.
The second group is drugs metabolized by a liver enzyme called CYP1A2 — wheatgrass can speed up how your body breaks down these medications, which may make them less effective. This is also a Moderate-severity interaction, and it affects a broad range of drugs, so your exact medication list matters here.
Although we've covered the major interaction categories, run your current medications through the search tool on this page to be sure.
