Clinical
This is an over-the-counter topical cream formulated for application inside the mouth to help relieve toothache and gum discomfort. Benzocaine is a local anesthetic that numbs tissue on contact. Benzalkonium chloride and zinc chloride are antimicrobial and astringent agents commonly included in oral preparations to help reduce irritation and protect affected areas. Menthol provides a cooling sensation often associated with oral comfort products. The product is marketed under FDA's OTC monograph rules for oral anesthetic products rather than as an individually approved application.
