Interaction Deep Dive

BuPROPion is associated with a dose-related risk of seizures and when used concomitantly with other seizure threshold-lowering agents there is an increased risk. Use extreme caution when coadministering buPROPion with drugs that lower seizure threshold (eg., antipsychotics, antidepressants, theophylline, systemic corticosteroids). Begin treatment with a low initial buPROPion dose and increase the dose gradually. If a patient experiences a seizure, discontinue buPROPion and do not reinitiate1. The dose for tablets should not exceed 450 mg/day 2. The dose for extended release should not exceed 300 mg once daily 3. The dose for sustained-release should not exceed 400 mg/day 4.
