What happens

Increased amphetamine exposure and increased risk of serotonin syndrome

Interaction Deep Dive

Coadministration of an amphetamine (a CYP2D6 substrate) with a CYP2D6 inhibitor may increase amphetamine exposure and increase the risk of serotonin syndrome. Consider using a drug that does not inhibit CYP2D621. If concomitant use of an amphetamine and a CYP2D6 inhibitor is required, initiate with lower doses and monitor patients carefully, especially for signs and symptoms of serotonin syndrome and particularly during treatment initiation and dosage adjustment. Discontinue both drugs if serotonin syndrome is suspected 213.
