Apple Polyphenols + Riociguat
Riociguat brand name: Adempas.
We found no known interaction between Apple Polyphenols and Riociguat in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.
Apple Polyphenols and Riociguat
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Riociguat and Apple Polyphenols in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Riociguat
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Riociguat is filed under 4 classifications — including antihypertensive drugs, p-glycoprotein substrates, cytochrome p450 3a4 (cyp3a4) substrates. Apple Polyphenols has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being insulin (moderate) — and none of Riociguat’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What Riociguat Is Prescribed For, and What Apple Polyphenols Has Been Studied For
These two come up together because they touch the same health topic — not because they do the same job. Riociguat is a prescription medicine with approved uses on its FDA label. Apple Polyphenols is a supplement: what follows is what researchers have looked at it for, and how strong that evidence is.
Riociguat is prescribed for: Riociguat tablets — sold as Adempas and under the generic name Riociguat — are used to treat adults with two types of pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the lungs). The first is chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), a condition caused by blood clots in the lung arteries, either after surgery or when surgery is not an option. The second is pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), where the arteries carrying blood to the lungs are narrowed or blocked. In both conditions, riociguat helps improve exercise ability and functional status, and in PAH it also helps slow the disease from getting worse.

Apple Polyphenols for hypertension
Preliminary clinical research in patients with hypertension or borderline hypertension shows that taking an apple polyphenol extract 330 mg daily for 4 weeks does not improve blood pressure or endothelial function, as measured by flow-mediated vasodilation (FMD), when compared with placebo.

Effectiveness ratings and the research summaries above are the verbatim record from the Natural Medicines database, which grades evidence from “Effective” down to “Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate”. A rating below the top of that scale means researchers have looked at it — not that it works, and never that it can stand in for a prescribed medicine. Do not stop or replace Riociguat on your own; if you are taking Apple Polyphenols for the same health topic, tell your prescriber, especially if the medicine is being adjusted to a target.
See Every Supplement That Interacts With Riociguat
This page covers Apple Polyphenols only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Riociguat page lists 230 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), American Hellebore (major), American Mistletoe (major), Grapefruit (major) and St. John's Wort (major).
By severity: 6 major · 187 moderate · 37 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Riociguat page
“Riociguat (Adempas) works by relaxing the blood vessels in your lungs, which also lowers blood pressure, so I read this list of 230 supplements and herbs with real concern, and the six rated major are what to understand first. Grapefruit can push riociguat levels up and intensify its effect, while St.”

About Apple Polyphenols
What is Apple Polyphenols?
- High cholesterol
- High blood pressure
- Weight management
- Antioxidant support
- Blood sugar support
- Skin health (topical)
Apple polyphenols are antioxidant plant compounds taken from apples and marketed for heart, weight, and blood sugar health. Early research is interesting, but there is not enough reliable human evidence to confirm these benefits. They appear generally safe in food-like amounts, but talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements.

Riociguat Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Riociguat as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Apple Polyphenols — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
