Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
Nephrotoxic Drugs
Why this applies to Aldesleukin
Aldesleukin falls under Nephrotoxic Drugs — the group Asian Water Plantain interacts with.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the simple version. Aldesleukin (Proleukin) is a powerful cancer immunotherapy given in the hospital, and one of its known risks is stress on the kidneys, sometimes showing up as reduced urine output, swelling, and rising kidney lab numbers. The concern with Asian water plantain is that, at very high doses in animal studies, some of its compounds (alisol A and alisol B) nudged kidney markers in a worrying direction. Stacking two things that can be tough on the kidneys is the worry here.
The good news: this is rated minor and unlikely, and the evidence comes from animals given huge doses, not from people. So real risk is probably small. Still, since Aldesleukin already taxes the kidneys, I'd skip this supplement and clear anything you take with your oncology team first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Aldesleukin page
“Aldesleukin (Proleukin) is high-dose immunotherapy for advanced kidney cancer and melanoma, and the drug is itself notoriously hard on the liver and kidneys, so this list earns real wariness. All 42 supplement interactions on file land on those same two organs: 38 ingredients can add liver strain and 6 can add kidney strain.”

About Asian Water Plantain
What is Asian Water Plantain?
- Promoting urination (diuretic)
- Fluid retention and swelling
- Urinary discomfort
- Cholesterol and heart health support
- Kidney and bladder support
Asian water plantain (Ze Xie) is a rhizome long used in traditional Chinese medicine, mainly as a diuretic and for fluid retention. Modern evidence is mostly limited to laboratory and animal studies, so its benefits in people are not well proven, and quality human safety data are lacking. Talk with a pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
