Drug & supplement interaction

Balneotherapy + Pregabalin

Pregabalin brand names: Lyrica, Lyrica CR.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Balneotherapy and Pregabalin in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Balneotherapy and Pregabalin

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Pregabalin and Balneotherapy in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — research on Balneotherapy alongside specific medications may be limited.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Balneotherapy at all — not against Pregabalin, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

Balneotherapy is a treatment rather than something you take. Tell whoever provides it which medicines you use, and ask your prescriber whether it is appropriate for your health and treatment. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Balneotherapy safety at a glance

Breastfeeding Use caution Likely low-risk for ordinary warm baths, but limited data exist on therapeutic spa treatments.

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Balneotherapy and Pregabalin May Share Several of the Same Side Effects

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so having Balneotherapy while taking the medicine can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do. 2 of them are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

Balneotherapy in Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Pregnancy Possibly Unsafe

When heated balneotherapy is used. Conditions that increase maternal core temperature above 39°C have been associated with increased risk of teratogenicity. Some early research also found an association between maternal heat exposure in the form of a hot tub or sauna during the first trimester and increased risk of neural tube defects. While a more recent analysis of clinical research shows that it is safe for pregnant women to sit in hot baths at 40°C (104°F) or in saunas at 70°C (158°F) for up to 20 minutes, regardless of trimester, clinical practice guidelines by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists still discourage pregnant women from using hot water baths during pregnancy due to possible risks. Until more is known, pregnant women should avoid hot balneotherapy baths and other treatments. There is insufficient reliable information available about the safety of balneotherapy heated to less than 39°C; avoid using.

What Pregabalin Is Prescribed For, and What Balneotherapy Has Been Studied For

These two come up together because they touch the same health topic — not because they do the same job. Pregabalin is a prescription medicine with approved uses on its FDA label. Balneotherapy is a treatment: what follows is what researchers have looked at it for, and how strong that evidence is.

Pregabalin is prescribed for: Pregabalin is used to manage several types of nerve pain, including neuropathic pain from diabetic peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage caused by diabetes) and postherpetic neuralgia (lingering nerve pain after shingles). It is also used to treat fibromyalgia and neuropathic pain associated with spinal cord injury. Lyrica (capsule and oral solution), pregabalin capsules, and pregabalin oral solution are also approved as add-on therapy for partial-onset seizures — Lyrica for patients 1 month and older, and pregabalin capsules for patients 17 years and older. Lyrica CR and pregabalin extended-release tablets are approved only for diabetic peripheral neuropathy pain and postherpetic neuralgia — their effectiveness for fibromyalgia or as seizure add-on therapy has not been established.

Effectiveness ratings and the research summaries above are the verbatim record from the Natural Medicines database, which grades evidence from “Effective” down to “Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate”. A rating below the top of that scale means researchers have looked at it — not that it works, and never that it can stand in for a prescribed medicine. Do not stop or replace Pregabalin on your own; if you are taking Balneotherapy for the same health topic, tell your prescriber, especially if the medicine is being adjusted to a target.

About Balneotherapy

What is Balneotherapy?

  • Osteoarthritis joint pain
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Low back pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Psoriasis and skin conditions
  • Relaxation and stress relief

Balneotherapy is a traditional treatment that uses bathing in mineral-rich or thermal water, often combined with mud or other natural elements, mainly for joint and skin problems. Some studies suggest it may ease pain and stiffness in conditions like osteoarthritis, but the quality of evidence is limited and benefits may be short-term. It is generally considered low-risk for healthy adults, but people with heart problems, open wounds, or certain medical conditions should check with a doctor first.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Balneotherapy is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Balneotherapy record says about it on its own.

Balneotherapy: dosing

There is no single standardized "dose" for balneotherapy. Treatment programs vary widely in water temperature, mineral content, length of each session, and number of sessions per week. Avoid very hot water and overly long sessions, and stop if you feel dizzy, overheated, or unwell.

Having Balneotherapy While Taking Pregabalin: Common Questions

Is it safe to have Balneotherapy while taking Pregabalin?
We do not list a known interaction between Balneotherapy and Pregabalin. That does not guarantee the combination is risk-free, so confirm with your pharmacist or doctor — especially if you take other medications or have a health condition.
Do Balneotherapy and Pregabalin have any of the same side effects?
Yes — our sources link each of them separately to 4 of the same effects. That is not an interaction: neither changes how your body handles the other. It does mean that if one of those effects turns up, it can be harder to tell which one is behind it. They are listed on this page with the source behind each.
Are Balneotherapy and Pregabalin used for the same thing?
They overlap in purpose, which usually means the real question is whether you need both rather than whether they are safe together. This page lists the shared uses and how strong the evidence is for Balneotherapy in each. That is a conversation for your prescriber, especially if Pregabalin is being adjusted to a target.
Does Pregabalin interact with any supplements?
Yes. Pregabalin has documented interactions with 95 supplements in our database — Balneotherapy is not one of them. The Pregabalin interaction page linked on this page lists every one, ranked by severity.
