Biotin + Doxycycline
Doxycycline brand names: Vibra-Tabs, Vibramycin, Doryx, Monodox, Doxycin, and others.
We found no known interaction between Biotin and Doxycycline in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the label for Doxycycline states a food rule worth keeping to, and the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.
Biotin and Doxycycline
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Doxycycline and Biotin in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Biotin at all — not against Doxycycline, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.
Biotin safety at a glance
Pregnancy & breastfeeding ratings are from Natural Medicines (Therapeutic Research Center) — the full detail is in the Special populations card below. Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.
Biotin in Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
When used orally and appropriately. Biotin has been safely used at the adequate intake (AI) dose of 30 mcg daily during pregnancy and 35 mcg daily during lactation. It has also been used in supplemental doses of up to 300 mcg daily. A tolerable upper intake level (UL) has not been established.

No Interaction — But Doxycycline May Lower Your Biotin Levels
These two do not interact. The relationship runs the other way: the licensed record lists Doxycycline as associated with lower Biotin levels — rated “Insignificant Depletion”.
There is some concern that antibiotic drugs might reduce biotin levels, but this has not been demonstrated in clinical research. Interference with the normal gastrointestinal flora by antibiotics may reduce bacterial synthesis of biotin. Although some bacterially-synthesized biotin can be absorbed from the lower intestine, this appears to contribute less than 20% of a person's daily requirement for biotin. Therefore it's unlikely that antibiotics would contribute to biotin deficiency.

Some Doxycycline Products Have a Food Rule — Biotin Should Not Break It
At least one FDA label for a product containing Doxycycline says to take it on an empty stomach. Most supplements — Biotin included — are taken with a meal, so the easy mistake is swallowing both together at breakfast. Where that rule applies, keep Doxycycline on its own and move Biotin to a meal later in the day.
This may not be true of your version. Food instructions belong to the product, not the ingredient: two Doxycycline products can carry different directions, and extended-release forms often differ from immediate-release ones. The label we read is quoted below — check the directions on your own box or bottle, or ask your pharmacist, for how to take the exact product you were given.
2 DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION Take one Doxycycline capsule (40 mg) once daily in the morning on an empty stomach, preferably at least one hour prior to or two hours after meals.
From the Dosage and Administration section of the FDA label we read for Doxycycline — where that label names a specific product, the instruction is that product's. Read the label on DailyMed ›
A food rule is not an interaction — it is about how much of the medicine you absorb. The directions that came with your own product, and your pharmacist, outrank anything on this page.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Doxycycline page
“St. John's wort is the supplement I would flag first for anyone on doxycycline (Vibramycin, Doryx), because it can speed the antibiotic out of the body and leave an infection undertreated.”

- Source: the Natural Medicines (TRC Healthcare) clinical database — the evidence-graded professional reference for herb & supplement interactions.
- Citation library: 103,510 references behind our interaction content, 65,311 of them resolved to verified PubMed/DOI sources. See every Biotin reference on this page ↓
- Freshness: we automatically re-check this combination every week — this pair was last verified September 13, 2026. The Biotin and Doxycycline records this page draws on were last updated July 10, 2026.
- What “no known interaction” means: no documented interaction in the sources above — not a guarantee of safety. Supplements are studied far less than prescription drugs, so we say exactly what the evidence supports, and nothing more.
About Biotin
What is Biotin?
- Hair growth and thinning hair
- Brittle nails
- Skin health
- Biotin deficiency
- Supporting metabolism
Biotin (vitamin B7) is a water-soluble vitamin your body needs to turn food into energy and to support healthy hair, skin, and nails. Most people get plenty from a normal diet, and true deficiency is rare. Supplements are widely sold for hair and nail health, but solid evidence for these benefits is limited in people who are not deficient, and high doses can interfere with certain lab tests.
Capsules, tablets, gummies, softgels, and as part of multivitamins or B-complex supplements
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Biotin is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Biotin record says about it on its own.
Biotin: dosing
There is no single standardized supplement dose proven to grow hair or strengthen nails. The amount your body needs each day is small and is usually met through a normal diet, so most people do not need a separate biotin supplement. Many over-the-counter products contain amounts that are far higher than the body's daily needs. If you have lab work scheduled, mention that you take biotin.

About Doxycycline
What Is Doxycycline Used For?
Brand names: Vibra-Tabs, Vibramycin, Doryx, Monodox, Doxycin, Doxy, Doxylin, Doxy-D, Periostat, Doxycycline Injection, Oracea, Xyrosa
Doxycycline belongs to the tetracycline family of antibiotics. It's prescribed for many types of bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), tick-borne illnesses like Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and eye infections. It's also used to help prevent malaria and, in some cases, as a helper treatment for severe acne.
In situations where penicillin-type antibiotics can't be used — due to allergy, for example — doxycycline can step in as an alternative. It should only be used for infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria.

Doxycycline Is Linked to Lower Levels of 7 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Doxycycline as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Biotin — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
