No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Biotin and Fenofibrate in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Biotin and Fenofibrate

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Fenofibrate and Biotin in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Biotin at all — not against Fenofibrate, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

What Biotin Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Fenofibrate. It is the side-effect record for Biotin on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Biotin, this list is the first place to look.

  • Diarrhea Additional detail

“Orally, high-dose biotin has been rarely associated with mild diarrhea. Transient mild diarrhea was reported by 2 patients taking biotin 300 mg daily.”

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Biotin — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Fenofibrate’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Fenofibrate column appears here.

What Fenofibrate Is Prescribed For, and What Biotin Has Been Studied For

These two come up together because they touch the same health topic — not because they do the same job. Fenofibrate is a prescription medicine with approved uses on its FDA label. Biotin is a supplement: what follows is what researchers have looked at it for, and how strong that evidence is.

Fenofibrate is prescribed for: Fenofibrate is used alongside a cholesterol-lowering diet in adults to improve abnormal lipid levels. Tricor (tablet) and fenofibrate tablets are indicated to lower LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol), total cholesterol, triglycerides, and apolipoprotein B, and to raise HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol) in adults with primary hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol) or mixed dyslipidemia (mixed abnormal lipid levels). They are also used to treat severe hypertriglyceridemia (very high triglycerides). Antara and Lipofen (capsules) are indicated to reduce triglyceride levels in adults with severe hypertriglyceridemia, and to lower LDL cholesterol in adults with primary hyperlipidemia when other recommended LDL-lowering therapies cannot be used.

Effectiveness ratings and the research summaries above are the verbatim record from the Natural Medicines database, which grades evidence from “Effective” down to “Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate”. A rating below the top of that scale means researchers have looked at it — not that it works, and never that it can stand in for a prescribed medicine. Do not stop or replace Fenofibrate on your own; if you are taking Biotin for the same health topic, tell your prescriber, especially if the medicine is being adjusted to a target.

These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. From our pharmacist’s overview on the Fenofibrate page

“Fenofibrate (Tricor, Antara) is a cholesterol and triglyceride medicine that can strain the liver on its own, so this list of 59 supplements deserves genuine care rather than a shrug. Most of it, 38 ingredients, involves herbs that also stress the liver, ashwagandha among them, and stacking those effects is the risk that matters most h…”

About Biotin

What is Biotin?

Biotin
  • Hair growth and thinning hair
  • Brittle nails
  • Skin health
  • Biotin deficiency
  • Supporting metabolism

Biotin (vitamin B7) is a water-soluble vitamin your body needs to turn food into energy and to support healthy hair, skin, and nails. Most people get plenty from a normal diet, and true deficiency is rare. Supplements are widely sold for hair and nail health, but solid evidence for these benefits is limited in people who are not deficient, and high doses can interfere with certain lab tests.

Capsules, tablets, gummies, softgels, and as part of multivitamins or B-complex supplements

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Biotin is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Biotin record says about it on its own.

Biotin: dosing

There is no single standardized supplement dose proven to grow hair or strengthen nails. The amount your body needs each day is small and is usually met through a normal diet, so most people do not need a separate biotin supplement. Many over-the-counter products contain amounts that are far higher than the body's daily needs. If you have lab work scheduled, mention that you take biotin.

Taking Biotin and Fenofibrate Together: Common Questions

Is it safe to take Biotin with Fenofibrate?
We do not list a known interaction between Biotin and Fenofibrate. That does not guarantee the combination is risk-free, so confirm with your pharmacist or doctor — especially if you take other medications or have a health condition.
Are Biotin and Fenofibrate used for the same thing?
They overlap in purpose, which usually means the real question is whether you need both rather than whether they are safe together. This page lists the shared uses and how strong the evidence is for Biotin in each. That is a conversation for your prescriber, especially if Fenofibrate is being adjusted to a target.
Does Fenofibrate interact with any supplements?
Yes. Fenofibrate has documented interactions with 59 supplements in our database — Biotin is not one of them. The Fenofibrate interaction page linked on this page lists every one, ranked by severity.
