Bredesen Protocol and Rivaroxaban

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Rivaroxaban and Bredesen Protocol in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Bredesen Protocol at all — not against Rivaroxaban, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

What Rivaroxaban’s Own FDA Label Lists

This is not an interaction — none of it involves Bredesen Protocol. These are the most notable effects listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Rivaroxaban’s own FDA label, for the medication by itself. Knowing the drug’s own list makes it easier to work out the likely cause if something new turns up while you take both. 5 of them are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • Bleeding in the gut Worth acting on mentioned in 10.5% of FDA reports for Rivaroxaban
  • Bleeding or bruising Worth acting on mentioned in 17.6% of FDA reports for Rivaroxaban
  • A stroke or mini-stroke Worth acting on
  • Blood clots Worth acting on
  • An irregular heartbeat Worth acting on
  • Cough
  • Vomiting

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Rivaroxaban. Read the label on DailyMed › Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 205,037 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Rivaroxaban that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Bredesen Protocol’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Bredesen Protocol side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Bredesen Protocol has no side effects.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Rivaroxaban

This page covers Bredesen Protocol only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Rivaroxaban page lists 285 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Rivaroxaban page

“Grapefruit is the interaction I would flag first for anyone taking rivaroxaban (Xarelto). It slows how the body clears this blood thinner, and higher levels mean more bleeding risk.”

About Bredesen Protocol

What is Bredesen Protocol?

  • Early memory loss
  • Mild cognitive impairment
  • Early Alzheimer's disease
  • Cognitive decline prevention
  • Brain health support

The Bredesen Protocol is not a herb or single supplement—it is a complex, individualized program of diet, exercise, sleep, stress reduction, and many supplements aimed at slowing or reversing cognitive decline. Rigorous, large, controlled studies are lacking, so its benefits remain unproven, and it should only be tried under medical supervision. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting any part of it.

Multi-part lifestyle and supplement program (diet, exercise, sleep, supplements, and other interventions)

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Bredesen Protocol is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Bredesen Protocol record says about it on its own.

Bredesen Protocol: dosing

There is no single standard dose for the Bredesen Protocol because it is a personalized, multi-part program, not one product. The supplements, diet, and other steps are meant to be tailored to each person based on testing and a practitioner's guidance. If you choose to explore it, do so under the supervision of a qualified clinician and review every supplement with your pharmacist to check the dose and avoid duplication or excess. Always follow the label on any product you take and do not exceed recommended amounts.

About Rivaroxaban

What Is Rivaroxaban Used For?

Brand name: Xarelto

Rivaroxaban tablets are used to reduce the risk of stroke in adults with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm), treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT, a blood clot in a vein) and pulmonary embolism (PE, a blood clot in the lungs), and lower the chances of these clots coming back. They also help prevent clots after hip or knee replacement surgery, protect hospitalized patients at risk for clots, and — in combination with aspirin — reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in adults with coronary artery disease (CAD) or peripheral artery disease (PAD).

Rivaroxaban tablets are also approved for treating VTE (venous thromboembolism, blood clots in veins) and preventing recurrence in pediatric patients from birth to under 18 years, and for preventing clots in children aged 2 and older with congenital heart disease after the Fontan procedure. Rivaroxaban for oral suspension (available as Rivaroxaban Granule and Xarelto oral suspension) is specifically indicated for these two pediatric uses.
