Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
DIURETIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Bendroflumethiazide, Nadolol
Bendroflumethiazide, Nadolol falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Butternut interacts with.
Some diuretics that can deplete potassium include chlorothiazide (Diuril), chlorthalidone (Thalitone), furosemide (Lasix), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, Hydrodiuril, Microzide), and others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Your Corzide combines two medicines: bendroflumethiazide (a water pill, or thiazide diuretic) and nadolol (a beta blocker). The thiazide part already nudges your body to lose some potassium in the urine. Butternut bark works as a stimulant laxative, and when the bowel runs loose you also lose potassium and other minerals. So the worry here is that the two together could add up and push your potassium too low.
Low potassium can leave you feeling weak, crampy, tired, or give you an irregular or pounding heartbeat, which matters more since nadolol affects heart rhythm too. I'll be honest: this is a theoretical concern based on how each works, not proven cases. Still, before pairing them, check in with your pharmacist or doctor, who may simply want to watch your potassium.

About Butternut
What is Butternut?
- Constipation (laxative)
- Digestive complaints
- Skin conditions
- Traditional 'liver' or 'cleansing' remedy
- Mild laxative in herbal blends
Butternut (Juglans cinerea) is a North American tree whose inner bark was traditionally used as a mild laxative and folk remedy. Modern scientific evidence supporting any of its uses is very limited, and it can cause stomach cramping and other effects, so it should be used cautiously and only with guidance from a healthcare professional.
