Cannabichromene (cbc) and Acetaminophen, Pentazocine

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

CNS DEPRESSANTS

Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Pentazocine

Acetaminophen, Pentazocine falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Cannabichromene (cbc) interacts with.

Using cannabichromene with drugs that have sedative properties may cause additive therapeutic and adverse effects.
Animal research shows that cannabichromene, given as a single dose intraperitoneally, increases the sedative response to the drugs hexobarbital, barbital, and zoxazolamine. However, this effect was not maintained when cannabichromene was given continuously. After receiving cannabichromene daily for 7 days, the sedative effect of these drugs was reduced when compared with a control group or a single dose of cannabichromene.

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Talacen pairs acetaminophen with pentazocine, an opioid pain reliever. Pentazocine can already make you drowsy, dizzy, or slow your breathing. The concern here is that CBC may add to that sedating effect, so combining the two could leave you more groggy, lightheaded, or unsteady than you'd expect from the medicine alone.

The evidence is thin. This comes only from animal studies looking at CBC with sedating drugs, not from human research, and interestingly the sedation effect faded with repeated dosing. So treat this as a possible, not proven, concern. To be safe, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before using a CBC product alongside Talacen, especially before driving or anytime that extra drowsiness could be risky.
