Carnosine and Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, Voxilaprevir

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, Voxilaprevir and Carnosine in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, Voxilaprevir

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, Voxilaprevir is filed under 9 classifications — including cytochrome p450 2b6 (cyp2b6) substrates, cytochrome p450 2c8 (cyp2c8) substrates, cytochrome p450 1a2 (cyp1a2) substrates. Carnosine has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being antidiabetes drugs (moderate) — and none of Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, Voxilaprevir’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What Carnosine Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, Voxilaprevir. It is the side-effect record for Carnosine on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Carnosine, this list is the first place to look. One entry is worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Carnosine — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, Voxilaprevir’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, Voxilaprevir column appears here.

How to take them

Some Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, Voxilaprevir Products Have a Food Rule — Carnosine Should Not Break It

At least one FDA label for a product containing Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, Voxilaprevir says to take it with food. If you take Carnosine on an empty stomach out of habit, keep them separate — and take Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, Voxilaprevir with a meal where the label says to.

This may not be true of your version. Food instructions belong to the product, not the ingredient: two Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, Voxilaprevir products can carry different directions, and extended-release forms often differ from immediate-release ones. The label we read is quoted below — check the directions on your own box or bottle, or ask your pharmacist, for how to take the exact product you were given.

( 2.1 ) Recommended dosage: One tablet (400 mg of sofosbuvir, 100 mg of velpatasvir, and 100 mg of voxilaprevir) taken orally once daily with food.

From the Dosage and Administration section of the FDA label we read for Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, Voxilaprevir — where that label names a specific product, the instruction is that product's. See the Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, Voxilaprevir drug page ›

A food rule is not an interaction — it is about how much of the medicine you absorb. The directions that came with your own product, and your pharmacist, outrank anything on this page.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, Voxilaprevir page

“Vosevi (sofosbuvir, velpatasvir, and voxilaprevir) cures hepatitis C over a single short course, and that is exactly why I would be genuinely careful with supplements while taking it. Anything that drags its blood levels down can cost you the cure itself.”

About Carnosine

What is Carnosine?

  • Anti-aging and general wellness
  • Exercise performance and muscle support
  • Brain and cognitive health
  • Eye health (cataracts, with N-acetylcarnosine drops)
  • Antioxidant support

Carnosine is a naturally occurring dipeptide (made of beta-alanine and histidine) that acts as an antioxidant and buffer in muscle and brain. It is sold as an anti-aging and performance supplement, but human evidence for most uses is limited, and many studies actually use beta-alanine, its precursor. It appears generally well tolerated at common doses, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting it.

Dipeptide naturally found in muscle and brain tissue; supplements are usually synthetic · Capsules, tablets, powder; sometimes paired with zinc as 'zinc-carnosine'

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Carnosine is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Carnosine record says about it on its own.

Carnosine: dosing

There is no official, standardized dose of carnosine. Do not assume that taking more is better, and avoid combining multiple products that contain carnosine or beta-alanine without professional advice.
