Liothyronine falls under THYROID HORMONE — the group Cassava interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for Cytomel (liothyronine): you take it because your own thyroid isn't making enough hormone, and this medicine simply replaces the active T3 your body needs. Cassava, especially when raw or poorly processed, can have an antithyroid effect, meaning it may push your natural thyroid levels down. That works against what your medication is trying to do.
In theory, regularly eating large amounts of cassava (the research used about 200 grams of boiled leaves twice a day) could nudge your thyroid balance and make your dose feel less effective, so you might notice fatigue, feeling cold, or weight changes creeping back. This is theoretical and based mostly on pharmacology, not a proven clash. Normal food portions are unlikely to be a big deal, but concentrated cassava supplements are different. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding them, and don't change your dose on your own.

About Liothyronine
What Is Liothyronine Used For?
Brand name: Cytomel
Liothyronine (available as tablets under the brand names Cytomel, Liomny, and Liothyronine Sodium, and as an injection under Liothyronine Sodium and Triostat) is primarily used to treat hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid) across all its forms — whether the cause is in the thyroid itself, the pituitary gland, or the hypothalamus, and whether it was present at birth or developed over time.
The oral tablets are also used alongside surgery and radioiodine therapy to suppress TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) in people with well-differentiated thyroid cancer, and as a diagnostic agent in thyroid suppression tests. Liothyronine sodium injection is specifically indicated for myxedema coma (a life-threatening form of severe hypothyroidism) and may be used in patients who are allergic to thyroid products derived from pork or beef.
