Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Aspirin, Butalbital, Caffeine, Phenacetin
Aspirin, Butalbital, Caffeine, Phenacetin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Catechu interacts with.
Animal research shows that black catechu can increase theophylline concentrations in the blood, possibly by inhibiting CYP1A2. Theophylline is a CYP1A2 substrate.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
This combination pill contains caffeine, and caffeine is the piece that matters here. Your body clears caffeine using a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. Catechu, which is rich in tannins, may slow that enzyme down a bit. If caffeine clears more slowly, it can hang around longer and pile up, leaving you feeling jittery, restless, or anxious, with a racing heart or trouble sleeping.
That said, this is based only on lab and animal research (it raised theophylline levels in animals), not real-world human studies, so treat it as a theoretical concern rather than a sure thing. An occasional culinary amount of catechu is unlikely to cause trouble, but concentrated supplement doses are a different story. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

“Marnal folds four drugs into one tablet, aspirin, butalbital, caffeine, and phenacetin, which gives supplements several ways to collide with it, and this list warrants genuine care. The dominant theme, covering 202 of the 347 ingredients on file, is added bleeding risk on top of aspirin's blood-thinning effect.”

About Catechu
What is Catechu?
- Mouth and throat soreness
- Diarrhea and digestive upset
- Skin wounds and bleeding gums
- Astringent gargles and rinses
- Traditional remedy for inflammation
Catechu is an astringent extract made from the heartwood of the Acacia (Senegalia) catechu tree, used traditionally for mouth sores, sore throat, diarrhea, and minor skin problems. Strong human evidence is lacking for most uses, so it should be viewed as a traditional remedy rather than a proven treatment. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking other medicines.
