Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Methadone
Methadone falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Corn Poppy interacts with.
Animal research suggests that corn poppy leaf extract has sedative effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: methadone already slows down your brain and breathing, and corn poppy may add a little to that calming effect. Animal studies hint that corn poppy leaf extract has mild sedative properties, so stacking it on top of methadone could leave you more drowsy, foggy, dizzy, or slowed down than usual.
I want to be honest about the evidence, though. This is mostly theoretical and comes from lab and animal research, not solid human studies, so we don't really know how strong the effect is in people. With a powerful drug like methadone, I'd still play it safe. Please run corn poppy past your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two, rather than guessing on your own.

About Corn Poppy
What is Corn Poppy?
- Cough and sore throat
- Sleep and restlessness
- Mild pain
- Anxiety and nervousness
- Digestive complaints
Corn poppy is a red-flowered plant traditionally used in teas and syrups for cough, sleep, and mild pain. Solid human research is very limited, so its benefits are not well proven, and unlike its relative the opium poppy, it contains only small amounts of weak alkaloids. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
About Methadone
What Is Methadone Used For?
Brand name: Dolophine
Methadone treats two main problems. Some products are used for severe, persistent pain that needs daily, around-the-clock opioid treatment when other options are not adequate. Some products are used for opioid addiction (heroin or other morphine-like drugs), as detoxification or as maintenance treatment along with social and medical services.
Not every product is approved for every use. Methadone tablets, oral solution and oral concentrate (Intensol) list both pain and opioid addiction. Diskets, Methadose Dispersible tablets and the Methadose and Methadone Hydrocloride oral concentrates are labeled only for opioid addiction. Methadone injection is for severe pain, and for short-term treatment of opioid dependence in people who cannot take medicine by mouth, such as hospitalized patients. It is not approved for outpatient opioid dependence treatment. Methadone is not meant to be used as an as-needed pain reliever.
