Here's the simple version: both DMHA and your amphetamine medication are stimulants. Amphetamine already revs up your system by boosting norepinephrine and dopamine, which is how it helps with focus, alertness, or staying awake. DMHA pushes in the same direction. Stack two stimulants together and you can pile on the effects, which may mean a faster or pounding heartbeat, higher blood pressure, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, or feeling anxious and wired.

To be fair, this concern is theoretical, based on how these ingredients work rather than solid studies. Still, DMHA is an unapproved ingredient the FDA has flagged as risky, so I'd steer clear of it altogether, especially alongside amphetamine. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Amphetamine Used For?

Brand names: Dyanavel XR, Adensys XR-ODT, Mydayis, Adzenys ER

Amphetamine treats Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in patients 6 years and older. Adzenys XR-ODT, Dyanavel XR, and the amphetamine extended-release orally disintegrating tablet formulations are specifically approved for ADHD in this age group.

Amphetamine Sulfate tablets and Evekeo (amphetamine sulfate tablets) are also approved for narcolepsy (a sleep disorder causing uncontrollable daytime sleepiness) and as a short-term aid in a calorie-restricted weight-loss program for exogenous obesity (weight gain from external factors like overeating) in patients who have not responded to other approaches.
