Buproprion, Dextromethorphan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group English Ivy interacts with.

Theoretically, English ivy might increase the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research shows that English ivy inhibits CYP2D6 enzymes. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the thing with Auvelity (the bupropion plus dextromethorphan combo). One reason bupropion is paired with dextromethorphan is that bupropion actually blocks the CYP2D6 enzyme, which keeps dextromethorphan levels up so it can work in the brain. Lab studies hint that English ivy may also block that same enzyme. If that happened in people, dextromethorphan levels could climb a bit higher, possibly nudging up side effects like dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, or that lightheaded feeling.

That said, this is only seen in test tubes so far, never reported in real patients, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since both ivy and your medicine touch the same pathway, it's worth a quick mention to your pharmacist or doctor before adding an ivy cough product.
