Darolutamide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group European Barberry interacts with.

Theoretically, European barberry might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
There is very preliminary evidence suggesting that berberine, a constituent of European barberry, might inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme. Theoretically, European barberry might have a similar effect.

Here's the gist for your prostate cancer pill, darolutamide (Nubeqa). Your body relies partly on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear this medicine. There is very early, theory-based evidence that berberine in European barberry might slow that enzyme down. If it does, darolutamide could build up a bit higher than expected in your system.

Higher levels can mean a greater chance of its usual side effects, like fatigue, rash, or aching in your arms and legs. To be clear, this is theoretical and based on lab thinking, not real patient reports, so I don't want you to panic. Still, since darolutamide is treating something serious, it's worth a quick chat with your oncologist or pharmacist before adding any barberry or berberine supplement. Please don't change your darolutamide on your own.

European barberry is a shrub whose root, bark, and berries contain berberine, a bitter plant alkaloid that has been studied mostly in isolated form. About Darolutamide

What Is Darolutamide Used For?

Brand name: Nubeqa

Nubeqa (darolutamide) tablets are approved for adult men with two forms of advanced prostate cancer. The first is non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC) — cancer that keeps growing despite hormone-lowering therapy and has not yet spread to other parts of the body. The second is metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC) — cancer that has spread but still responds to hormone-lowering treatment.

For mCSPC, Nubeqa can be used alone or in combination with docetaxel (a chemotherapy medicine). In all cases, patients also receive a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist or antagonist — a medicine that lowers testosterone — or have already had surgery to remove the testicles.
