Prednisolone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group European Barberry interacts with.

Theoretically, European barberry might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
There is very preliminary evidence suggesting that berberine, a constituent of European barberry, might inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme. Theoretically, European barberry might have a similar effect.

Here's the gist: your body clears prednisolone partly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Berberine, the main active compound in European barberry, may slow that enzyme down a bit. If it does, prednisolone could hang around longer and build up, which can nudge its effects and side effects upward.

For prednisolone, that might mean more of the usual steroid side effects, things like fluid retention, higher blood sugar, mood or sleep changes, stomach upset, or higher blood pressure. I want to be straight with you though: this is theoretical, based on lab clues rather than real patient reports, so it may never cause you a problem. Still, before pairing barberry supplements with prednisolone, run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

Prednisolone is prescribed for many different conditions where inflammation or an overactive immune system is causing harm. These range from severe allergic reactions and asthma to certain skin diseases, blood disorders, eye problems, and some cancers.

It is also used to support the body when the adrenal glands aren't making enough of their own steroids, and to manage flares of conditions like ulcerative colitis, multiple sclerosis, and nephrotic syndrome (a kidney condition causing protein loss in the urine).
