Levomethadyl (Orlaam) is a long-acting opioid that was used to treat opioid dependence. Like other opioids, it can slow your breathing and make you drowsy. European barberry contains berberine, and in animal studies berberine seemed to have some mild sedative effects. The thinking here is simple: if both products calm the nervous system, those effects could stack up.

To be clear, this is a theoretical concern based on lab and animal data, not strong human evidence. Still, with a powerful opioid like this, I'd play it safe. If the two were combined, you might notice extra sleepiness, dizziness, or slower breathing. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding barberry, and never adjust your Levomethadyl on your own.
